Praying Through To Victory

Pastor Mirek Hufton · 2025-07-13

Prayer is the most powerful weapon the Church of Jesus Christ has, but not all prayer gets results. In this message, Pastor Mirek breaks down what it means to pray with real, believing faith and why you cannot afford to settle for anything less than victory in your prayer life.

"Praying Through To Victory" — Pastor Mirek Hufton

1. SERMON RECAP

Pastor Mirek Hufton challenged the congregation to move beyond passive, routine prayer into bold, faith-filled prayer that expects results. He emphasized that ineffective prayer is not simply a mystery to accept but a problem to address by growing in prayer skills, standing firm without quitting, and deploying the spiritual weapons God has provided. He called every believer to press through discouragement and doubt until victory is secured in the prayer closet.

2. KEY SCRIPTURE

Ephesians 6:18 "Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints."

3. ICE BREAKER

Think of a time you kept at something difficult and eventually broke through, maybe learning a skill, finishing a project, or working through a tough season. What kept you going when you felt like quitting?

4. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Point 1 — The Shield of Faith Pastor Mirek described the shield of faith as a weapon that quenches every fiery dart the enemy throws, including destructive thoughts and discouragement. He pointed out that many believers receive those darts without pushing back. In what kinds of everyday situations do you find it hardest to raise the shield of faith, and what has helped you do it more consistently?

Point 2 — The Sword of the Spirit (the Word of God) Pastor Mirek stressed that the sword of the Spirit is the spoken, declared Word of God, a Rhema word, and that Jesus never silenced the enemy through silent thoughts but always through his spoken word. How does speaking Scripture out loud, rather than simply thinking it, change the experience of standing against doubt or fear in your own life?

Point 3 — Using Your Weapons Together Pastor Mirek urged the group to stop treating spiritual weapons as concepts to admire and start treating them as tools to use actively in prayer. He included the name of Jesus as a weapon, noting that Peter and John demonstrated its authority when they said, "In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk." What does it look like practically to walk into a difficult day or a hard situation with all of these weapons consciously in hand, rather than reaching for them only in a crisis?

Point 4 — Praying in the Holy Ghost Pastor Mirek taught that praying in the Holy Ghost stirs up the spirit, captures the anointing of God, and lifts a believer into a place of genuine spiritual authority. He said that when a person exits the prayer closet with the victory settled on the inside, it changes how they carry themselves through the day. How does your current practice of prayer in the Spirit compare to what Pastor Mirek described, and what one adjustment could make your prayer time more Spirit-led?

5. APPLICATION CHALLENGE

This week, set aside a specific block of time, even fifteen to twenty minutes, to pray through one situation you have been carrying with discouragement or doubt. Begin by praying in the Holy Ghost, then speak the Word of God out loud over that situation, declare the name of Jesus over it, and finish by raising the shield of faith against any thought that says the answer will not come. Write down in one sentence what you are believing God for so you can report back to the group next week.

6. PRAYER POINTS

  • Pray that each group member would develop a disciplined, faith-filled prayer life that does not quit before the breakthrough arrives.
  • Pray for any specific situation members are standing in faith for, healing, family restoration, provision, or direction, that the four spiritual weapons would be actively deployed over each one.
  • Pray for the mission work of the church, including those going to the nations, that the prayers of the congregation would open doors and shift spiritual atmospheres in those regions.

7. MEMORY VERSE

1 John 5:14 "Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us."

God Is For You — So Ask

Matthew 7:11 — "If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him."

I want you to hold onto something I said Sunday that I believe with everything in me, God is for you. That is not a slogan. It is a fact rooted in the character of your heavenly Father. Jesus used the most ordinary picture He could find: a father giving good things to his children. If an imperfect earthly father does that naturally, how much more does a perfect, loving God do it for you? The problem is not that God is withholding. The problem is often that we are not asking, or we are asking without truly believing. Prayer is not a formality. It is a direct line to a Father who leans in when you speak. He hears you from the very first day you pray. Do not let discouragement convince you He is distant or indifferent. He is listening, and He wants to bless you.

Father, thank You for being a good Father to me. Forgive me for the times I have doubted Your willingness to help. I am coming to You today believing You hear me.

Write down one specific thing you need from God today and bring it to Him in prayer, out loud, believing He hears you the moment you ask.

He Heard You From the First Day

Daniel 10:12 — "Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard; and I have come because of your words."

Sunday I shared Daniel's story because it wrecked me when I really sat with it. Daniel prayed, and the angel showed up and said something remarkable; from the very first day you prayed, your words were heard. Not eventually. Not after enough repetition. The first day. I want you to let that settle in your heart right now. That prayer you have been praying for your marriage, your health, your child, your finances — God heard it the first time you brought it to Him. The delay is not silence. There is a battle happening in the unseen realm, and your perseverance in prayer is part of how that battle is won. Daniel did not quit, and the answer broke through. You cannot afford to quit either. The word is already moving on your behalf. Keep standing.

Lord, I choose to believe You heard me the first day I prayed. Help me to stand firm and not interpret delay as denial. I trust that You are working even when I cannot see it.

Revisit one prayer you have nearly given up on. Pray it again today with fresh faith, thanking God that He has already heard you.

Use Your Weapons — The Shield of Faith

Ephesians 6:18 — "Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints."

I told you Sunday that prayer is warfare, and I meant it. The enemy does not sit quietly while you press into God. He throws fiery darts, thoughts of doubt, discouragement, offense, and fear, hoping one of them lands and you walk away from what God has promised you. That is exactly why the Bible gives us the shield of faith. When a dart comes, and it will come, you do not analyze it or entertain it. You raise the shield. You say out loud, "I do not receive that in the name of Jesus." I have had to do this personally, and I will keep doing it. The shield only works when you pick it up and use it. Perseverance in prayer and perseverance in faith work together. You stay watchful, you stay praying, and you do not let the enemy talk you out of what God has already said belongs to you.

Father, I pick up the shield of faith today. Every thought that contradicts Your Word, I reject it right now. Keep me watchful and steadfast in prayer.

The next time a discouraging thought tries to settle in your mind today, speak out loud against it, even quietly, and follow it with one declaration of what God's Word says about you.

Use Your Weapons — The Sword and the Name

Mark 16:17 — "And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons."

We covered two more weapons Sunday, and I do not want you to move past them too quickly. The Word of God, the Rhema word, the word God speaks directly into your spirit, is a sword. It only cuts when you use it out of your mouth. Jesus never rebuked the devil with a thought. He spoke. He declared. He used His mouth. You have to do the same. Declare what God has said over your life, your family, and your situation. Then there is the name of Jesus. I love this one because it costs you nothing and carries the full weight of heaven behind it. When Peter and John stood before the lame man at the gate, they did not have money or influence, but they had that name, and one declaration in that name changed everything. You have the same name available to you right now. Use it.

Lord Jesus, I thank You that Your Word is alive and active in my mouth. I thank You for the authority of Your name. Teach me to use both with boldness and confidence today.

Find one scripture that speaks directly to something you are believing God for, and speak it out loud over your situation at least once today — in the name of Jesus.

Pray in the Holy Ghost and Do Not Quit

John 16:24 — "Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full."

I saved this for last because I believe it ties everything together. Praying in the Holy Ghost is not an optional extra for the spiritually adventurous. It is what takes your prayer life from going through the motions to genuinely breaking through. When you pray in the Spirit, you are cooperating with God Himself. Your intercession lines up with His will in ways your natural mind cannot always access. I told you Sunday about James Fraser, a missionary who prayed for years with almost no results, until he changed how he believed about prayer. The moment he began praying in faith, expecting God to move, everything shifted. Entire villages came to Christ. That same shift is available to you. Pray until you feel something break loose on the inside. Come out of your prayer time with your head up, knowing the victory is already yours in Jesus.

Holy Spirit, I invite You to take over my prayer life. I want to pray with power and precision. Help me to persist until the breakthrough comes and my joy is full.

Set aside ten minutes today to pray in the Holy Ghost. If you do not yet pray in tongues, spend that time praising God out loud until your spirit feels stirred and your faith is lifted.
