Renew Your Mind
In this powerful message, Pastor Chris Hufton challenges believers to fix their minds on what God says is true, not on their current circumstances or the whispers of the enemy. When life feels stuck or prayers seem unanswered, the temptation is to focus on what hasn't happened yet. But Pastor Chris reminds us that our story isn't over until we decide it is. Drawing from the life of Joseph, who waited 17 years for God's promises to be fulfilled, Pastor Chris urges the congregation not to walk away in impatience. God's timing isn't our timing, but He is faithful. In a memorable personal illustration, Pastor Chris described playing kickball at the park, running the bases as fast as he could and waking up the next morning completely pain-free, a reminder that healing and breakthrough often come in unexpected, everyday moments. The bottom line: Renewing your mind means choosing daily to look forward, meditate on God's Word, and hold fast to what He has promised, no matter what your circumstances say right now.

RENEW YOUR MIND
Small Group Discussion Guide
Based on the sermon by Pastor Chris Hufton
1. SERMON RECAP
Pastor Chris Hufton preached a follow-up to the previous week's message on living your best life, challenging the congregation that a renewed mind is the essential foundation for stepping into everything God has for them. He drew on personal testimonies about his family, career, physical healing, and a new home to illustrate that God-given vision requires both declaration and genuine belief, not just wishful thinking. He reminded the group that life in a fallen world will bring setbacks, but that renewing the mind through God's Word is what separates those who press forward from those who stay stuck.
2. KEY SCRIPTURE
Romans 12:2 (NLT)
"Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect."
3. ICE BREAKER
What is one habit, routine, or ritual you have tried to build in your life that took longer than you expected to actually stick?
4. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
1. Pastor Chris pointed out that we tend to take personal credit when things go well and assign blame outward when things go wrong. Where have you seen this pattern show up in your own life, and what does it look like to break it?
2. He described the story of Joseph as a picture of someone whose circumstances were deeply unfair, yet whose thinking never became defined by those circumstances. What do you think made it possible for Joseph to keep pressing forward, and what does that challenge you to hold onto in your own situation?
3. Pastor Chris drew a distinction between declaring something in faith with the intention of growing to believe it, versus declaring something while privately expecting it to fail. How honest are you currently being with God about the gap between what you say and what you actually believe?
4. He warned that social media, news cycles, and the constant flow of negative information are actively working to reshape the way we think, often without us realizing it. What inputs in your daily life are quietly pulling your thinking away from what God says is true, and how aware have you been of their effect?
5. Pastor Chris referenced 2 Corinthians 10:5 and the idea of taking rebellious thoughts captive. What is a specific thought pattern that keeps reasserting itself in your life that you have not yet fully brought under the obedience of Christ?
6. He shared that some of his greatest blessings came disguised as hard work, uncertainty, or situations that did not look like a blessing at first glance. How has God used something uncomfortable or unexpected in your life to build a skill, a character quality, or an opportunity you would not otherwise have had?
5. APPLICATION CHALLENGE
This week, identify one area of your life where your self-talk has been shaped more by fear, past disappointment, or outside voices than by what Scripture actually says. Find one specific verse that speaks directly to that area, write it on a card or in your phone, and read it out loud every morning and every evening for the next seven days. Come back to the group next week prepared to share what that verse is and what you noticed as you practiced it.
6. PRAYER POINTS
-
Pray that each group member would have the courage to honestly identify the thought patterns and mental strongholds that are keeping them from stepping into the life God has for them.
-
Pray for patience and sustained faith in areas where the vision has not yet come to pass, that the group would resist discouragement when God's timing does not match their own expectations.
-
Pray for protection over the minds of everyone in the group from the noise, fear, and division that come through the media and cultural voices constantly competing for their attention and belief.
7. MEMORY VERSE
Philippians 4:8 (NLT)
"Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise."

Your Story Isn't Over
Romans 12:2 — "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is — his good, pleasing and perfect will."
I want to talk to you honestly this morning. Life is not linear. Things happen to us — real things, hard things — and the enemy will whisper lies straight into your ear, trying to convince that what you're facing right now is the final chapter. But I'm telling you, it doesn't have to be. I've been walking through my own journey with my back, choosing to trust God rather than rushing toward what feels like the easy answer. That hasn't always been comfortable. But I keep reminding myself: what God says about me is truer than what my circumstances are telling me. You have to make that same choice. Renew your mind. Refuse to let the hard thing become your whole story.
Lord, help me to stop letting my circumstances write my story. Remind me today that Your Word is more powerful than what I can see. Transform my thinking, starting right now. Amen.
Meditate on What God Says Is True
Joshua 1:8 — "Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful."
I'll be honest with you — focusing on God's Word when you're in pain or waiting isn't easy. It's one of the hardest things I know. Most people, and I understand why, would just take the quick fix. And hey, if you've done that, there's grace. But I made a choice to hold on and keep believing, and I'm watching God move in small, real ways — like the other day at the park playing kickball with the kids, running those bases and jumping at the end, then waking up without pain. That might sound small to you. But to me, that was God showing up. Those little moments of breakthrough are what keep your faith alive when the big miracle hasn't arrived yet. Meditate on His promises. Stay in the Word. Feed your faith, not your fear.
Father, help me to fill my mind with Your truth today instead of rehearsing everything that's gone wrong. Let Your Word become the loudest voice in my life. I choose to meditate on what You say. Amen.
Don't Let Comparison Steal Your Faith
Galatians 6:4 — "Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to someone else."
Can I be real with you? Sometimes the hardest place to keep your faith is sitting right here in church. You hear someone else's testimony — their miracle came fast, their breakthrough was dramatic — and the enemy uses that to whisper, "Why not you? Maybe God doesn't care about your situation." I've felt that. We've all felt that. But somebody else's testimony is not your measuring stick. God is not slow with you — He's working something in you that requires time and trust. Joseph waited seventeen years. Seventeen. And the whole time, God was building something extraordinary beneath the surface. Don't let comparison rob you of your confidence. Your healing, your breakthrough, your promise — it's coming on God's schedule, and His timing is always perfect.
God, forgive me for comparing my journey to someone else's. Help me to trust that You are just as faithful to me as You are to anyone else. Keep my eyes on You and not on others. Amen.
Look Forward, Not Behind
Philippians 3:13-14 — "But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus."
I want to ask you something today. How much mental energy are you spending looking backwards? Rehearsing the mistakes, the losses, the prayers that haven't been answered yet, the things that went wrong? I get it. It's human. But I'm learning that you cannot press forward while your eyes are locked on what's behind you. We still have things on our drawing — our vision, our dreams — that haven't come to pass yet. That doesn't mean God forgot. It means we're still in the story. I am a child of God. You are a child of God. That means the best is still ahead. Start seeing yourself there. Start thinking like someone who is headed somewhere great, because you are. Don't let the past chapters convince you how the whole book ends.
Lord, I choose today to let go of what's behind me and fix my eyes on what You have ahead. Give me vision for my future and the courage to press toward it. I trust You with my story. Amen.
You Can Live Your Best Life
John 10:10 — "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full."
I want to close out this week by reminding you of something important: you were not created to just survive. Jesus came so that you could have life — full, abundant, overflowing life. But here's what I've learned: that life doesn't come automatically. We have to renew our minds. We have to actively choose to think in alignment with what God says is possible for us. The enemy's whole strategy is to keep you focused on everything broken, everything delayed, everything painful — because as long as your mind stays there, you'll never step into what God actually has for you. So this weekend, I want you to make a decision. Decide that you are going to live your best life. Not because everything is perfect, but because your God is faithful, your future is bright, and your mind is being renewed one day at a time.
Father, thank You that You came to give me a full and abundant life. Help me to renew my mind every single day so I can walk in everything You have prepared for me. I refuse to settle for less than Your best. Amen.
