"3 Keys to Answered Prayer" — Ev. Nathan Pimentel
1. SERMON RECAP
Evangelist Nathan Pimentel drew from Luke 18:1-8 to present three practical keys to answered prayer: do not worry but pray persistently, pray with confidence knowing God hears and answers, and water your prayers with praise. He shared compelling personal stories and testimonies to demonstrate that God is not merely a prayer-hearing God but a prayer-answering God. He challenged the congregation to refuse to quit before their breakthrough arrives, trusting that persistent, confident, praise-filled prayer unlocks supernatural results in every season of life.
2. KEY SCRIPTURE
Luke 18:1
"One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up." (New Living Translation)
3. ICE BREAKER
What is the most surprising or unexpected answer to a prayer you have ever witnessed or heard about, even if it was something small?
4. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
Question 1 Evangelist Pimentel said that prayer should be our first option in every difficult situation, not a backup plan after we have exhausted our natural resources. How does that idea challenge the way most people, including believers, typically respond when a problem arises? What makes it so difficult to go to prayer first?
Question 2 He shared the story of a couple who waited twelve years for a baby after a prophetic prayer, and the woman held on to that word through repeated disappointment. What does that kind of persistence require from a person emotionally, spiritually, and practically? What tends to cause people to give up on a prayer just before the breakthrough comes?
Question 3 Evangelist Pimentel pointed to 1 John 5:14-15, which ties answered prayer to praying according to God's will and to the confidence that God hears us. In practical terms, how does a person grow in understanding what it means to pray according to God's will? How does that confidence change the way someone actually prays?
Question 4 He described a moment of deep personal grief over his daughter Lily when he did not feel like praising God at all, yet obeying the instruction to praise God in that moment became the turning point in the situation. What is the difference between praising God because circumstances feel good and praising God as an act of faith when they do not? Why do you think praise carries such power in the middle of a crisis?
Question 5 Evangelist Pimentel referenced Ephesians 1, noting that believers are seated in heavenly places with Christ, far above every power and principality, meaning whatever comes under Christ's feet also comes under the feet of the believer. How should that spiritual reality change the posture and tone with which a person approaches prayer? Does it change the way you think about your own prayer life?
Question 6 He observed that the enemy works hard to keep believers from praying because he understands that a person's level of power and victory is directly connected to their prayer life. Where are the most common places in daily life where prayer gets crowded out or quietly dropped? What has helped group members stay consistent in prayer during demanding or discouraging seasons?
5. APPLICATION CHALLENGE
Identify one situation this week in which your natural instinct would be to worry, research, or talk to others before praying. Instead, stop and pray about it first before taking any other step. Then, during that prayer, spend at least two minutes praising God specifically for who He is in relation to that situation, not only asking but thanking Him, even before the answer comes. Be ready to share what that experience was like when the group meets again next week.
6. PRAYER POINTS
-
Pray that each group member would develop a genuinely persistent prayer life, refusing to quit in the face of delay or disappointment, trusting that God's timing is never a denial.
-
Pray for any specific situation represented in the group where someone has been waiting a long time for an answer, asking God to renew their faith and to move supernaturally on their behalf.
-
Pray that the group as a whole would grow in the confidence described in 1 John 5:14-15, approaching God with bold, expectant faith rather than doubt or passive resignation.
7. MEMORY VERSE
James 5:16b
"The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results." (New Living Translation)

Never Stop Asking
Luke 18:1 — "One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up."
On Sunday, I shared the story of the persistent widow — a woman who refused to quit until she received what she needed. Jesus did not tell that story to entertain us. He told it because he knew we would face moments when prayer feels pointless, when the silence of heaven feels unbearable, and when quitting seems like the reasonable option. I have been in ministry 23 years, and I can tell you honestly — the greatest mistake I have seen people make is giving up right before the breakthrough arrives. Twelve years. That is how long one couple held on to a prophetic word before their baby came. They did not give up. They kept asking, kept seeking, kept knocking. The door did not stay shut forever. Whatever you are believing God for today, do not stop. Persistent prayer is the key to consistent victory.
Father, forgive me for the times I have quit too soon. Strengthen my faith to keep praying, even when I cannot yet see the answer. I trust that you hear me and that you will respond in your perfect time.
Pray Before You Worry
Philippians 4:6 — "Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done."
On Sunday, I told you about the day my washing machine broke and my wife and I had no money to replace it. We did the only thing we knew to do — we prayed. The very next day, a stranger called our church out of the blue, opened a phone book to a random page, and felt led to offer us a free washer and dryer. I did not share that story to impress you with the miracle. I shared it because God wants you to know he is interested in every detail of your life, even the small ones. Paul did not say pray about the big things. He said pray about everything. When you are tempted to sit in worry today, treat prayer as your first option, not your last resort. Cast your cares on him — he genuinely cares for you.
Lord, I confess I reach for worry before I reach for you. Teach me to bring everything to you first, trusting that nothing in my life is too small for your attention. Thank you for caring about every detail.
God Hears and God Answers
1 John 5:14-15 — "This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us — whatever we ask — we know that we have what we asked of him."
On Sunday, I walked into a hospital room where a 27-year-old man was not expected to survive the night. His mother asked me to pray for peace. I told her I had not come to pray for peace while her son died — I had come to lay hands on him and believe God for a miracle. That was not arrogance. That was confidence rooted in this verse. When you pray according to God's will, you can know he hears you. And when you know he hears you, you can trust that the answer is already in motion. Within days, that young man's kidneys recovered, his blood clots disappeared, and he eventually walked out of that hospital. Today he is in full-time ministry. God does not only hear your prayer. He answers it. Pray today with that confidence.
Father, I come to you today not with timid words but with bold faith. I believe you hear me, and I believe you will answer. Give me the courage to pray according to your will without wavering.
Praise Opens What Prayer Prepares
James 5:16 — "The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results."
On Sunday, I told you about sitting in that overflow room in Illinois, heartbroken over the news that Lily might not come back to us. I did not feel like praising God. Everything in me wanted to walk back to my car and sit alone in that parking lot. But when the bishop said that if I would get up and praise God with everything I had, God would step into my situation — something rose up on the inside of me. I threw my hands up and I praised him. Three weeks later, Lily's grandmother called and said they had made a terrible mistake. That shift did not begin when I prayed a sophisticated prayer. It began when I obeyed and praised. Fervent prayer produces results. But when praise follows that prayer, something shifts in the atmosphere. Do not wait until conditions are perfect. Praise him now.
Lord, I choose to praise you today not because everything is resolved but because you are worthy. Step into the situations I cannot fix on my own and fight the battles I cannot win by myself. I trust you completely.
Seated Above Every Attack
Ephesians 1:20-21 — "He raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come."
On Sunday, I reminded you that because we are in Christ, we are seated with him in heavenly places — far above every power and principality that has come against your life. That is not just poetic language. It is your legal spiritual position. What comes under his feet comes under yours. The devil has been harassing some of you, shaking things loose in your life the way that demonic spirit shook Brother Sumrall's bed across his room. But just as Brother Sumrall commanded that spirit to put everything back, you have the authority in Jesus' name to do the same. You do not have to accept the losses the enemy has brought into your life. You are not beneath the attack. You are seated above it. Walk into this weekend knowing who you are in Christ — more than a conqueror, seated with him, far above every force that has tried to defeat you.
Father, thank you that I am seated with Christ, above every power that has come against me. I declare today that the enemy has no final authority over my life. I walk in the victory that belongs to me in Jesus' name.
