Small Group Discussion Guide

Based on the sermon by Pastor Mirek Hufton

1. SERMON RECAP

In this powerful message, I challenged every believer to stop hiding on the sidelines and step boldly into the authority God has already given us through Jesus Christ. I walked us through what it looks like to speak, act, and stand against every attack of the enemy — whether it shows up as fear, oppression, sadness, or anything else that tries to pull us down. The bottom line is this: because Jesus lives in us, we are the majority, and we have every right to take dominion over our homes, our minds, our families, and our lives.

James 4:7 (NKJV) "Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you."

3. ICE BREAKER

Think of a time you stood your ground on something — big or small, serious or funny. Maybe you refused to let someone take your parking spot, or you finally spoke up about something that had been bothering you for a long time. Share it with the group — what did it feel like to not back down?

4. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

1. Getting into the Word James 4:7 has two parts — submit to God and resist the devil. Why do you think both parts matter? What happens if we try to resist the enemy without first submitting to God?

2. Speaking It Out I talked about how David didn't just think his victory over Goliath — he declared it out loud before he ever threw a stone. What do you think is the difference between positive thinking and faith-filled declaration rooted in God's Word? Have you ever experienced the power of speaking Scripture out loud over a situation?

3. The Armor We Already Have I reminded us that we are clothed in the armor of God and that God Himself lives inside us. How does that truth change the way you see yourself when you're facing a hard season? Does it feel natural or does it feel like a stretch? Why?

4. Act It Out Taking dominion isn't just about words — it's about action. I shared how we keep church going through snow, ice, and even COVID because being together matters. Where in your life have you been waiting for perfect conditions before stepping out in faith? What would it look like to act on what you believe right now, even if circumstances aren't ideal?

5. Your Home, Your Castle I said when you walk into your house, that's a castle — and the peace of God reigns there in Jesus' name. How intentional are you about establishing God's presence and peace in your home? What are some practical ways your group could take more spiritual ownership of their homes and families?

6. Shaking It Off I used the image of Paul shaking that snake off his hand — no panic, no drama, just done. What is one thing — fear, discouragement, a recurring thought, a habit — that you know you need to shake off? What has been making it hard to let it go?

5. APPLICATION CHALLENGE

This week, choose one specific area of your life where you have been passive or fearful — maybe it's your health, your finances, a relationship, or your thought life. Every morning for seven days, speak James 4:7 out loud over that situation, then write down one small action you will take that day to back up your declaration with faith. At the end of the week, bring your notes back to the group and share what you noticed.

6. PRAYER POINTS

• Boldness in the Spirit — Pray that every person in your group develops a deep, settled confidence in the authority they have been given through Jesus Christ, and that timidity and fear would have no place in their lives.

• Peace and Protection Over Homes and Families — Pray specifically over each family represented in your group — that their homes would be places where God's presence is tangible, and that the enemy's influence over their children, marriages, and households would be broken.

• Wisdom and Courage to Act — Pray that group members would not only hear God's Word but move in it this week — that the gap between what they believe and how they live would close, and that real, visible breakthrough would follow their obedience.
