Our Authority Over The Demonic World

Pastor Mirek Hufton · 2026-10-04

Most believers know they have authority over the enemy, but knowing it and walking in it are two very different things. In this powerful message, I take you straight to Luke 10:19 and unpack what it truly means to exercise the delegated authority Christ has given every believer over every force of darkness.

"Our Authority Over The Demonic World"

Pastor Mirek Hufton

1. SERMON RECAP

Pastor Mirek opened with Luke 10:19 and built the case that every believer has been given real, delegated authority over demonic forces — not as a distant theological idea, but as a practical daily reality. He traced how mankind lost dominion at the Fall, how Jesus restored it through his death and resurrection, and how four voices in Scripture — Jesus, Peter, James, and Paul — together establish the full picture of the church's authority. He challenged the congregation to stop tolerating what the enemy throws at them and to begin actively exercising the authority that Christ has already secured.

2. KEY SCRIPTURE

Luke 10:19 "Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you."

3. ICE BREAKER

What is the most unexpected situation you have ever seen someone handle with surprising calm and confidence, and what do you think gave them that steadiness?

4. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Point 1 — Jesus tells us about it

Pastor Mirek pointed to Jesus as the Second Adam who, unlike the first Adam, never sinned and therefore held authority the enemy had never encountered in a human being. He noted that Jesus restored to mankind the full dominion described in Genesis 1:26 — to tread upon, conquer, govern, and rule — and that this restoration is what stands behind every statement Jesus makes about the believer's authority.

Discussion question: In what areas of everyday life do most believers live as though Adam's forfeiture of dominion is still in effect, rather than as though Jesus has fully restored it — and why do you think that gap exists?

Point 2 — Peter tells us about it

Pastor Mirek drew on 1 Peter 5:8-9, where Peter describes the devil as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour and commands believers to resist him steadfast in the faith. He stressed that the word "may" carries real weight — the enemy can only devour those who allow it — and that resistance is not optional but a direct command.

Discussion question: Peter connects resisting the devil to standing firm in faith, suggesting the two cannot be separated. What does it look like in practice to resist spiritually rather than simply trying harder emotionally or mentally?

Point 3 — James tells us about it

Pastor Mirek spent considerable time on James 4:7 — "Submit to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you" — and emphasized that the resisting is the believer's responsibility, not God's. He recounted the vision Brother Kenneth Hagin described, in which Jesus explained that he could not cast out a demon harassing Hagin because the authority had already been delegated to the believer.

Discussion question: The idea that God genuinely will not act in an area where he has delegated authority to us can feel uncomfortable or even unsettling. How does your group respond to that, and what difference would it make to your prayer life if you took it seriously?

Point 4 — Paul tells us about it

Pastor Mirek anchored Paul's teaching in two verses: Ephesians 1:20, which places Jesus at the right hand of the Father far above all principalities and powers, and Ephesians 2:6, which places the believer seated together with Christ in that same position. He described these two verses as the twin pillars on which the believer's authority rests, and he urged the group to meditate on them until the truth moves from mental knowledge into lived consciousness.

Discussion question: Pastor Mirek said that when pressure comes, what comes out reveals whether a truth has truly been built into a person — not just known. Using that standard honestly, how deeply have Ephesians 1:20 and 2:6 actually shaped the way your group members respond when life squeezes them?

5. APPLICATION CHALLENGE

Each group member is encouraged to identify one specific area — a recurring anxious thought, a persistent physical symptom, a strained relationship, or a pattern of discouragement — where they have been praying passively and asking God to handle it, rather than actively speaking the authority of the name of Jesus over it. Every morning for the next seven days, they should stand, speak out loud, and address that specific thing by name, using the name of Jesus and the language of authority rather than petition. At the next meeting, group members will briefly share what they noticed.

6. PRAYER POINTS

  • That each group member would move from a mental understanding of spiritual authority to a deep, lived confidence that shapes how they think, speak, and respond under pressure.
  • That the congregation would be consistent and bold in using the name of Jesus to resist the enemy's activity in their families, workplaces, and communities — refusing to tolerate what God has already given them authority over.
  • That those in the group who are facing specific battles — whether in health, in family relationships, or in their thought life — would experience genuine breakthrough this week as they exercise the authority Christ has secured for them.

7. MEMORY VERSE

Ephesians 2:6 "And raised us up together and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus."

The Authority Jesus Personally Gave You

Luke 10:19 — "Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you."

I want you to sit with this verse today, really sit with it. Jesus is not speaking to a room full of superheroes. He is speaking to ordinary people, and he is handing them something extraordinary. The word authority here is exousia — delegated power. Think about what that means. A police officer does not manufacture power from within himself. He carries the power of the city behind him. When Jesus says I give you authority, he is placing the full weight of heaven behind every step you take. Sunday I preached that Christ's victory over the devil is your victory. That is not a motivational slogan. It is a legal transaction. Jesus purchased it. He is handing it to you now. The question is not whether you have it. The question is whether you will pick it up and use it today.

Lord, thank you that this authority is not something I have to earn — you already gave it to me. Help me to stop living beneath what you have placed in my hands. I receive it today, in Jesus name.

Speak Luke 10:19 aloud three times today, slowly, as a personal declaration over your own life.

Who You Were Always Meant to Be

Genesis 1:26 — "Then God said, Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth."

Before sin entered the picture, before anything went wrong, God looked at the man and woman he had made and handed them the keys. Dominion. Radah in the Hebrew, meaning to govern, to rule, to tread upon. God did not give man suggestions. He gave man authority. I want you to understand that when Adam fell, he did not just lose paradise. He lost his identity as a ruler. Satan took what was not his. But here is the good news I need you to hold onto all day. Jesus came as the second Adam to give it all back. When you received Christ, you were not just forgiven. You were restored to what you were always meant to be. You were made to govern, not to cower. You were made to rule, not to be ruled. That is your original design, and Jesus has reclaimed it for you.

Father, forgive me for the times I have lived far smaller than you created me to live. Remind me today that I was made in your image and given dominion, and that Jesus has fully restored what was lost. I step into that today.

Write down one area of your life where you have felt powerless, and deliberately declare over it today that you were made for dominion, not defeat.

Seated Far Above the Enemy

Ephesians 2:6 — "And raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus."

I told you Sunday that our authority hangs on two scriptures, and this is the second one. Ephesians 1:20 tells us Jesus was raised from the dead and seated at the right hand of the Father, far above every principality and power. Then Ephesians 2:6 drops something that should stop you in your tracks. You are seated there with him. Not someday. Now. In Christ, your position is not on the ground looking up at the devil. Your position is above him, looking down. The enemy fights so hard to make you forget this. He piles on discouragement and heaviness and confusion because if you ever truly grasp where you are seated, he loses his grip on you. You are not beneath the pressure of darkness. You are above it. That is not arrogance. That is what the word of God declares about every believer who is in Christ Jesus.

Jesus, I confess that I have not always lived like someone seated at your right hand. Open my eyes to my true position today. Let that truth shift the way I face every challenge in front of me.

The next time something pressures or discourages you today, pause and say aloud, "I am seated with Christ, above this, in Jesus name."

James Knew — Resistance Is Your Job

James 4:7 — "Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you."

I love the clarity of this verse because it removes every excuse. James does not say wait for God to resist the devil on your behalf. He does not say ask nicely and hope for the best. He says you resist. That word is active. It belongs to you. I shared on Sunday the story Brother Hagin told about the demon showing up while Jesus appeared to him in a vision. Jesus did not cast it out. Brother Hagin had to. When he finally rose up and commanded that thing to go in Jesus name, it fled. Jesus then gave him the scripture. You have the authority. Use it. Here is what I have found in my own life. When thoughts come that drag me down, when oppression tries to settle on my shoulders, the moment I open my mouth and resist it in Jesus name, it lifts. Not slowly. Just lifts. But I have to do it. Nobody else will do it for me, and God will not take back what he has already placed in my hands.

Lord, I submit myself fully to you right now. And in your name, I resist every lie, every weight, and every assignment of the enemy against my mind and my life today. Thank you that he must flee.

Identify one thought or feeling that has been pulling you down this week. Speak directly against it today — out loud, in Jesus name — and then thank God for your freedom.

Paul Said It Plainly — Give Him No Place

Ephesians 4:27 — "Nor give place to the devil."

Paul says it in four words. Do not give him a door. The enemy cannot walk through a wall. He needs an opening, and the frightening truth is that we can provide one. Unforgiveness is a door. Resentment is a door. Bitterness toward someone who hurt you is a door. I am not saying this to condemn you. I am saying it because I want you free. Paul understood that authority over darkness is not just about commanding demons to go. It is about keeping your own house in order so there is nothing for them to hold onto. 1 Peter 5:8 says the devil walks around like a roaring lion seeking who he may devour. He is looking for an opening. Close it. Walk in forgiveness. Walk in the word. Stay submitted to God. When your life is surrendered to Jesus and you refuse to give the enemy a foothold, you are not just defending yourself. You are advancing, and the kingdom of darkness has no answer for a believer who walks in the light with authority.

Father, show me any door I have left open through unforgiveness, fear, or compromise. I choose to close it today. I give you every room in my life, and I ask you to fill it with your presence and your authority.

Ask the Holy Spirit to bring one unresolved offense to your mind. Choose to forgive that person today, speak it aloud if you can, and declare that door closed in Jesus name.
