"How to Be Led by the Holy Spirit"

1. SERMON RECAP

Pastor Mirek Hufton taught that every believer is called to live a life led by the Holy Spirit, and that this is a lifelong journey of faith that requires intentional development of the spirit man. He emphasized that we cannot connect with God through our flesh or intellect alone, but only through our spirit, and that praying in the Holy Ghost is one of the most powerful tools available to every Christian for building up the inner man. Think of a time when you had a strong gut feeling about something, ignored it, and later wished you had listened. Without going into too much detail, what was that experience like?

4. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Question 1 Pastor Mirek described walking by the Spirit as a "supernatural walk" that often goes contrary to what the world says, pointing out that choosing faith and peace during a time of widespread fear is itself countercultural. In what areas of everyday life does following the Spirit feel most at odds with what the culture around us says we should think, feel, or do?

Question 2 Pastor Mirek used the example of Enoch, who walked so closely with God that he was taken up without dying, and he noted that Enoch had nothing more than oral tradition to guide him. He had no Bible, no church, no Scripture, only a hunger to know God. What does Enoch's example say to us today, when we have access to so many spiritual resources yet can still feel spiritually distant from God?

Question 3 He explained that praying in the Holy Ghost builds up the spirit man above emotions, mental reasoning, past failures, and condemnation, comparing it to a seedling breaking through clods of dirt to reach the light. How has prayer, in whatever form it takes in your own life, helped you break through a season of spiritual heaviness or confusion?

Question 4 Pastor Mirek spoke about learning to recognize the "inner witness," describing it as an intuitive, growing sense of peace or unease that confirms or cautions against a decision. He noted that the peace tends to grow the longer you sit with it, while pressure and haste tend to drown it out. What habits or practices in your current life make it easier to hear that inner witness, and what habits make it harder?

Question 5 He referenced Jude 19-20, contrasting people who are led by their senses and emotions with believers who build themselves up by praying in the Holy Ghost and keep themselves in the love of God. In practical terms, what does it look like to be "sensual" or flesh-led in everyday decision-making, and how is that different from the spirit-led approach Pastor Mirek described?

Question 6 Pastor Mirek shared several personal stories, including the leading he received about the church building, finding the right staff member, and marrying his wife, where the Spirit's direction made no logical sense at first but led to unmistakable blessing over time. He also mentioned inviting trusted prayer partners to seek the Lord together and see if their impressions line up. Who are the people in your life you could genuinely invite into that kind of Spirit-seeking conversation, and what would it take to build that kind of trust?

5. APPLICATION CHALLENGE

Before making any decision this week, whether small or significant, pause before responding and take sixty seconds to quiet your mind, shift your attention inward, and ask the Holy Spirit for a sense of peace or caution. Write down in a journal or on your phone what you noticed. At your next group meeting, be prepared to share one specific moment when you tried this and what, if anything, you sensed.

6. PRAYER POINTS

• Pray that each group member would develop a consistent, deepening habit of praying in the Spirit, and that their spirit man would grow stronger and more sensitive to the leading of the Holy Ghost.

• Pray for clarity and courage in any specific decisions group members are currently facing, that they would not act hastily but would wait on the Lord until they have a settled, growing peace.

• Pray that the group as a whole would become a community of genuine spiritual accountability, where members feel safe enough to seek each other out as prayer partners when navigating important life decisions.
