Sermon

Positioned for God's Commanded Blessing

Pastor Mirek Hufton · 2026-04-19

God doesn't just offer blessing, He commands it. Drawing from Deuteronomy 28, I unpacked what it means when God commands His blessing: it carries the same unstoppable authority as "Let there be light." Nothing the enemy does can prevent it from reaching you, but you must be intentionally positioned to receive it. Three positioning steps matter most: seek God first (Matthew 6:33, Job 22:21), resist the enemy aggressively, and get God's commanded blessing working on the inside of you through faith and generosity. The moment that still stays with me: as a young man, I faced a mountain of business debt after a failed venture. Instead of quitting, I spread every bill across my kitchen table, bound the devil over each one, declared them paid in Jesus' name, then got angry enough to act. I entered corporate sales, and God's commanded blessing overtook me supernaturally. Our single office consistently outsold the entire state. If you'll seek His face, stand against the enemy, and give generously in faith, God will command breakthrough over every area of your life. (Psalm 115:12)

POSITIONED FOR GOD'S COMMANDED BLESSING

A Small Group Discussion Guide

1. SERMON RECAP

In this message, I unpacked what it means to be intentionally positioned to receive God's commanded blessing — not just hope for it, but actually step into it. I walked us through three key moves: seeking God's face first, standing against the enemy's deception, and getting the reality of God's commanded blessing deep inside us. The central truth is this: when God commands a blessing, it carries the same creative power as when he said "Let there be light" — nothing can stop it, but we have to be in position to receive it.

2. KEY SCRIPTURE

Matthew 6:33 (NKJV) "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you."

3. ICE BREAKER

Think of a time when being in the wrong position — physically, geographically, or relationally — caused you to miss something good. Maybe you were in the wrong seat, wrong place, wrong timing. What happened, and how did it resolve?

4. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

1. "Positioned" is a deliberate word. I said in the sermon that the commanded blessing won't happen automatically — you have to be positioned for it. What does being "out of position" actually look like in someone's everyday life? What are some honest signs that we might be a little sideways in our walk with God right now?

2. Seeking God vs. seeking His blessings. I contrasted Abraham, who followed God's voice without knowing where it led, with Lot, who followed the money. It's easy to say we're seeking God when we're really just seeking what He can give us. How do you personally tell the difference in your own heart? What does genuine God-seeking actually feel like in practice?

3. The rhema — hearing God's personal word. I talked about the difference between the Logos (the written Word) and the rhema — what God speaks directly and personally to you. Has there been a time when you felt God gave you a specific, personal word that changed your direction? What made you recognize it as God's voice and not just your own thoughts?

4. Job 22:21 says, "Acquaint yourself with Him, and be at peace; thereby good will come to you." "Acquainted" suggests a close, familiar relationship — not a distant, occasional one. What are the biggest practical barriers that keep most believers from that level of closeness with God? Which of those barriers is most real for you personally right now?

5. David at Ziklag — encouraging himself in the Lord. I pointed to the moment in 1 Samuel 30 where David's men are weeping, his own people want to stone him, and everything is gone — yet he strengthened himself in the Lord. What do you think that actually looked like for David in that moment? And what does it practically look like for us when we're in our own "Ziklag moments"?

6. Repentance and second chances. I talked about how David, Paul, and Jacob were all deeply flawed men who still walked into God's blessing — because they knew how to repent and keep coming back. Is there an area of your life where the enemy has been using past failures to convince you that you're disqualified from God's blessing? How does the grace shown to these biblical figures speak to that lie?

5. APPLICATION CHALLENGE

This week, set aside 15 uninterrupted minutes each morning to simply be with God — no agenda, no prayer list, no podcast playing.

Open with this prayer: "God, make me hungry for You. I want to hear Your voice this week." Then sit quietly, read one psalm, and listen. At the end of the week, write down anything specific that came to your heart — a verse that stood out, a conviction, an impression, a sense of direction. Bring your notes to your next group meeting and share what you noticed.

6. PRAYER POINTS

  1. Hunger for God's presence — Pray that each person in your group would move beyond showing up for blessing and begin genuinely desiring God Himself. Ask the Holy Spirit to create a real hunger that pulls them into consistent time with Him.

  2. Breaking deception — Pray specifically against the enemy's lies that tell people they are too far gone, too disqualified, or that God is the source of their hardship. Ask God to bring clarity, truth, and bold faith to replace those lies.

  3. Practical positioning — Pray for each group member by name, asking God to show them the one specific area of their life where they need to shift into better alignment with Him — whether that's finances, family, health, or calling — and that they would have the courage to act on what He shows them this week.

7. MEMORY VERSE

Psalm 115:12 (NKJV) "The LORD has been mindful of us; He will bless us."

Leader's Note: These questions work best when you allow silence after asking them. Don't rush to fill the quiet — often the most honest and meaningful answers come after a few seconds of reflection. Your job isn't to have the right answers; it's to create a safe space where real conversations happen.

God Commands Your Blessing

Deuteronomy 28:8 — *"The Lord will command the blessing on you in your storehouses and in all to which you set your hand, and He will bless you in the land which the Lord your God is giving you."*

I want you to really grasp the weight of that word *command*. When God commands something, it's not a suggestion — it's a sovereign decree from heaven. When he said "let there be light," light showed up immediately. It had no choice. That same unstoppable power is behind the blessing God has declared over your life. He's not reluctantly blessing you. He's not waiting to see if you deserve it. He is *commanding* it. I've watched this in my own life and in the lives of people around me — when God commands the blessing, nothing the enemy throws at you can stop it. But here's what I need you to understand today: you have to be positioned to receive it. The blessing is real, it's coming, and it has your name on it. Start believing that today.

Lord, I choose to believe right now that you have commanded blessing over my life. Help me get into position to receive everything you've already declared for me. I trust your word today, in Jesus' name.

Write Deuteronomy 28:8 on a card and place it somewhere you'll see it throughout the day — your mirror, your desk, your dashboard. Every time you read it, say aloud: *"God commands blessing over my life."*

Seek Him First, Watch Everything Shift

Matthew 6:33 — *"But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you."*

I remember a season in my younger years when my finances were a mess and I felt completely disoriented. I had stepped on a banana peel in business and face-planted hard. But I made one decision that changed everything — I committed to putting God first, completely and without reservation. I said, *God, I just want to focus on you.* And I'm telling you, when I did that, my life began to shift. Blessings started coming from directions I never expected. That's not a coincidence — that's Matthew 6:33 in action. Abraham didn't follow money. He followed God's voice, and blessing chased him down. The same is true for you. Don't make God your last resort after everything else fails. Make him your first pursuit every single morning, and watch how he adds things to your life that you couldn't manufacture on your own.

Father, forgive me for the times I've chased the blessing more than I've chased you. Today I'm choosing to seek your face first. I trust that as I do, you'll take care of everything else.

Before you check your phone, your emails, or your schedule tomorrow morning, spend the first ten minutes of your day in prayer — just talking to God. Make him genuinely first today.

Acquaint Yourself With Him

Job 22:21 — *"Now acquaint yourself with Him, and be at peace; thereby good will come to you."*

I love this verse because it's so beautifully simple. *Acquaint yourself with God* — get to know him, spend time with him, talk to him like he's real, because he is. And the promise attached is this: *good will come to you*. Not maybe. Not if the conditions are perfect. Good will come. When you spend consistent time with God, something happens that no strategy or self-help book can replicate — you begin to hear his voice. What I call a *rhema* — a word God speaks directly to your heart. It's not just reading scripture; it's when the Spirit takes a verse and it comes alive inside you, giving you specific direction for your specific life. I built this church on rhema words from God, not on good ideas from my own head. Good ideas go flat. But when God speaks a word into you and you act on it, you step into the commanded blessing. Get close enough to him to hear him speak.

Lord, I want to know you — not just know about you. Speak to my heart today. Give me a hunger for your presence that I can't satisfy with anything else.

Find a quiet place today — even fifteen minutes in your car, a park, or a quiet room — and simply be still before God. No agenda, no requests. Just listen and let him speak.

Stand Up and Take It Back

Psalm 115:12 — *"The Lord has been mindful of us; He will bless us; He will bless the house of Israel; He will bless the house of Aaron."*

David sat at the ruins of Ziklag — his camp burned, his family taken, his men talking about killing him. That is rock bottom. But the Bible says he *encouraged himself in the Lord*. He didn't stay in the rubble. He stood up, got a word from God, and chased the enemy down for 24 hours straight until he recovered *everything*. I want to speak to someone today who feels like they're sitting in the ashes of something the enemy stole. Your health, your finances, your family, your peace. God is mindful of you — that's what Psalm 115:12 says. He hasn't forgotten your address. But you cannot afford to stay lying down. Get up. Get angry at the right enemy. Go to God and ask, *shall I pursue?* And I promise you, just like he told David — you will pursue, you will overtake, and you will recover all. That's not just a story. That's your promise.

Lord, I'm getting back up today. I refuse to accept what the enemy has stolen as the final word over my life. I'm standing on your promise — I will recover all, in Jesus' name.

Identify one area where the enemy has stolen ground in your life — your health, finances, relationships, or peace. Write it down and declare out loud: *"Devil, get off my [family/health/finances]. God's commanded blessing is coming, and you cannot stop it."*

The Blessing Is Already Commanded

Psalm 115:12 — *"The Lord has been mindful of us; He will bless us; He will bless the house of Israel; He will bless the house of Aaron."*

As we close out this week, I want to leave you with this: God is not reluctantly watching from a distance, waiting to see how you perform. He is *mindful of you* — right now, today. Jesus told my friend Jerry Savelle, *I'm tired of my people living in lack. I have the power to command my blessing.* And when Jesus commands something, it carries the same power that spoke creation into existence. This isn't theology to debate — it's a reality to step into. I've lived it. My parents lived it. I've watched it happen in this very church, in marriages, in businesses, in families. The commanded blessing is real. Your part this week has been to position yourself — seek God first, get close enough to hear his voice, stand against the enemy, and believe. You're not trying to earn God's blessing. You're getting into position to receive what he has already spoken over your life. Now walk in it.

Father, thank you that you are mindful of me. I receive your commanded blessing over my life, my family, my health, and my future. I choose to stay positioned — seeking you first, every single day.

Share one thing God spoke to you through this week's devotionals with someone you trust — a spouse, a friend, or a fellow church member. Faith grows when we speak it out and when we walk it out together.
