How to Pray the Prayer of Faith

Pastor Mirek Hufton · 2025-11-19

Most Christians know about prayer, but far fewer know how to pray in a way that actually changes things. In this message, Pastor Mirek breaks down what Jesus taught about the prayer of faith, the kind of prayer that moves mountains, brings healing, and releases God's blessing into every area of your life. If your prayers feel powerless or stuck, this is the word you need to hear.

"How to Pray the Prayer of Faith"

A Message by Pastor Mirek Hufton

1. SERMON RECAP

Pastor Mirek Hufton taught from Matthew 21:21-22 on the prayer of faith, drawing a clear distinction between the "God kind of faith" — which believes in the heart and speaks out of the mouth — and the "mankind kind of faith," which only believes what the senses can confirm. He explained that just as God spoke the worlds into existence by believing and declaring, believers are called to operate the same way in their daily lives. He challenged the group to recognize that faith is not merely head knowledge but something that must be developed, fed, and spoken out loud in order to produce real results.

2. KEY SCRIPTURE

Matthew 21:22 (NKJV)

"And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive."

3. ICE BREAKER

Think of a time when someone else's confidence in you caused you to believe something was possible that you had previously doubted. What did that feel like, and what changed because of it?

4. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

1. The God Kind of Faith vs. The Mankind Kind of Faith

Pastor Mirek described two kinds of faith operating in people's lives. The "mankind kind of faith" says, "If I can see it, feel it, or touch it, then I will believe it." The "God kind of faith" believes first in the heart and then speaks it out of the mouth. Where do group members see these two kinds of faith showing up in their own prayer lives, and what tends to pull them more toward one than the other?

2. The Formula: Believe and Declare

Pastor Mirek pointed to Romans 10:8-10 as a template that goes far beyond salvation. He suggested that the same pattern — believing in the heart and confessing with the mouth — applies to whatever a person needs from God, whether healing, provision, or breakthrough. How does the group react to applying this pattern to everyday needs, not just to receiving salvation? What hesitations or encouragements come up?

3. Head Knowledge vs. Heart Revelation

Pastor Mirek shared a sobering point about a study conducted by Oral Roberts, which found that Pentecostal believers who assumed they understood healing often saw fewer results than those who were new to the faith. He suggested that familiarity with a truth can become a barrier to actually receiving it. How can a person tell the difference between genuinely holding a truth in their heart versus simply knowing it in their head? What practices help move a truth from the mind into the heart?

4. Feeding Faith and Starving Doubt

Pastor Mirek was direct: faith must be developed on purpose. It grows through hearing the Word, meditating on it, attending Bible teaching, and surrounding oneself with people who speak faith rather than fear. What habits or environments in the group members' current lives are quietly feeding doubt? What honest adjustments might need to be made?

5. Speaking Out What You Believe

Pastor Mirek noted that Christians often fail at the final step — actually speaking out what they say they believe. He said the prayer of faith is not a religious, wordy petition hoping something might happen; it is a deliberate, grounded declaration rooted in a specific promise from the Word. What makes it difficult for many believers to speak faith declarations out loud, and how might the group begin to encourage one another in this practice?

6. Faith as a Lifestyle, Not an Event

Pastor Mirek described faith as something that ought to become a reflex — a natural, ongoing response to every challenge, whether large or small. He talked about calling in finances, calling in good weather for ministry events, and declaring health over his own body as normal, everyday expressions of faith. What would it look like practically for each person in the group to treat the prayer of faith less like an emergency measure and more like a daily way of life?

5. APPLICATION CHALLENGE

Before the group meets again, each person should identify one specific area of their life where they have been waiting passively for a change — whether related to health, finances, a relationship, or a decision they are facing. They should find one scripture that directly addresses that need, write it out by hand, read it aloud at least once each morning for seven days, and add a brief spoken declaration based on that verse. At the next gathering, group members will share what they noticed in their thinking, their peace, and any practical shifts that took place during the week.

6. PRAYER POINTS

  • Pray that each group member would move from knowing about the prayer of faith to genuinely experiencing it from the heart, and that the Word would take root at a deeper level than before.

  • Pray for boldness and consistency in speaking faith out loud, asking God to break off any shame, passivity, or religious habit that keeps group members quiet when they should be declaring.

  • Pray for one specific breakthrough that each person is believing for, lifting those needs before God as a group and agreeing together according to Matthew 18:19 that they are received.

7. MEMORY VERSE

Mark 11:24 (NKJV)

"Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them."

The God Kind of Faith Is Already Yours

Mark 11:22 — "Have faith in God."

On Wednesday I kept coming back to this phrase — the God kind of faith. I want you to sit with that today, because Jesus would never have said "have the God kind of faith" if it were impossible for you to have it. That would be cruel, and Jesus is not cruel. He is generous. He is specific. He is telling you that the same faith God used to speak worlds into existence is available to you right now, not when you get more spiritual, not when your life gets tidier, but today. Romans 12:3 tells us every believer has been given a measure of faith. That means you already have something to work with. The question is whether you are developing it or leaving it sitting on the table. I want you to decide today that you are going to take what God has already placed inside you and begin to use it.

Father, thank you that you did not ask me to do something impossible. I receive the faith you have already given me and I choose to develop it. Help me to believe bigger today than I did yesterday.

Write down one area of your life where you have been operating in doubt rather than faith, and declare one scripture-based truth over it out loud before the day ends.

Faith Comes When You Feed It

Romans 10:17 — "So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."

I told you on Wednesday that faith is not something you conjure up through willpower or positive thinking. It comes through the word. When the word is preached, when you sit with it, when you read it again and let it sink past your head and into your heart, faith rises. That is not a metaphor — it is a spiritual law as reliable as gravity. The problem I see again and again is that people assume they already know the word well enough. They got an A on the test but are flunking in life, because knowledge in your head and revelation in your heart are two very different things. You have to keep watering the word inside you. You have to hear it, and hear it, and hear it again. Each time you do, your faith grows a little stronger, and your doubts get a little quieter. That is not weakness. That is wisdom.

Lord, I open my heart to your word today, not just my mind. Let what I read and hear go deep, and let faith rise up in me that actually moves things. I want to know this, not just know about it.

Set aside fifteen minutes today to read healing or promise scriptures slowly, out loud, as if you are hearing them for the first time.

Believe It in Your Heart, Then Say It With Your Mouth

Romans 10:8 — "The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart, that is, the word of faith which we preach."

I love this verse because it gives us the exact formula. It is not complicated. You believe it in your heart and you speak it out of your mouth. That is the God kind of faith in action. God himself modeled this in Genesis — he believed and then he spoke, and light came, and land appeared, and life began. He did not create with materials he could see. He created from the inside out. You and I are made in his image, and we are called to operate the same way. Where Christians most often fail is on that last step — actually opening their mouths and saying what they believe. It feels risky. It feels presumptuous. But silence is not humility, it is unbelief dressed up nicely. Whatever you are trusting God for today, I want to encourage you to say it. Speak it over your health, your family, your finances. Your words have direction.

Father, give me the courage to open my mouth and declare what your word says, not what my circumstances look like. I choose to agree with you today, out loud and on purpose.

Choose one specific promise from scripture that applies to your current situation and speak it out loud three times today, slowly and deliberately.

Cast It and Leave It There

1 Peter 5:7 — "Cast all your care upon Him, for He cares for you."

I shared on Wednesday that the prayer of faith is not a prayer of worry dressed in religious language. It is not timid asking wrapped in a dozen qualifiers. It is bold, trusting, releasing. This verse tells you to cast your care — and the word cast means to throw it, to let it go, to not pick it back up. God is not asking you to hand your burden over carefully and then keep checking to see if he dropped it. He is asking you to trust that he has got it, because he cares for you. That phrase, he cares for you, is not a polite afterthought. It is the entire reason the whole thing works. He is not indifferent to your situation. He is engaged. He is moved by what moves you. So pray the prayer of faith today, release what you have been carrying, and trust that the one who created the universe is personally attentive to your need.

Lord, I choose right now to cast this burden onto you and leave it there. Thank you that you care about me personally and that your hands are strong enough to hold what I cannot carry.

Write down one worry you have been carrying and physically set the paper aside as a deliberate act of releasing it to God, then do not return to that worry today.

What Do You Desire? Ask for It

Mark 11:24 — "Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them."

I want to end this week with the most exciting truth I preached on Wednesday — Jesus left a blank check on the table. Whatever things you desire. He did not narrow it down to spiritual things only. He did not say to make your request small so as not to bother him. He said whatever. Now I know that word makes religious people nervous, and I understand that. But if you are walking with God, born again, and genuinely seeking his kingdom, your desires are being shaped by him. So ask. Ask for the land, ask for the healing, ask for the restored relationship, ask for the finances you need. Ask believing that you receive it, not hoping, not wishing, believing. Deuteronomy 28 describes a life so thoroughly blessed that the blessing overtakes you. That is the life God designed for you. Do not sit on the outside of it being polite. Step in. Believe. Speak. Receive.

Father, I bring my desires before you today without apology, because you said I could. I choose to believe that I receive, and I thank you that your word does not return void.

Pray the prayer of faith over one specific desire today — state it clearly, believe it as you pray, thank God for it as if it is already done, and then resist the urge to take it back with doubt before the day is over.
