"Following Our Godly Heritage" — Pastor Mirek Hufton

1. SERMON RECAP

In this message, I challenged us to recognize and build on the three-part godly heritage God has given every believer — a heritage of faith, a heritage of revival, and a heritage of missions. Just like Timothy received genuine faith passed down through his grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice, each of us is called to receive, live out, and pass on what God has entrusted to us. A godly heritage isn't something we passively inherit — it's something we actively embrace, protect, and give away to the next generation.

2. KEY SCRIPTURE

Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV) "But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him."

3. ICE BREAKER

Think about someone in your life — a grandparent, parent, teacher, or mentor — who passed something meaningful down to you. It doesn't have to be spiritual! What was it, and why does it still stick with you today?

4. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

1. Opening the Word In 2 Timothy 1:5, Paul points to Timothy's grandmother and mother as the source of his genuine faith. Who in your life has been a "Lois or Eunice" — someone whose faith rubbed off on you? What did their example actually look like in everyday life?

2. Going Deeper on Faith I said from the pulpit that Habakkuk 2:4 — "the just shall live by faith" — means faith isn't just a moment, it's a way of life. What's the difference between believing in God and actually living by faith day to day? Where do you find that distinction hardest to hold onto?

3. Honest Conversation I shared how I was told Mark 11:22-24 "doesn't mean what it says" — and how I had to decide for myself whether to take God's Word at face value. Have you ever had a moment where you had to choose between what someone told you the Bible means and what it actually says? How did you work through that?

4. Revival and Hunger I talked about how you can't fill a bottle that's already full — we have to come to God hungry and thirsty. On a scale of 1 to 10, how hungry would you honestly say you are for more of God's presence right now? What tends to dull that hunger in your own life, and what stirs it back up?

5. The Missions Heartbeat I pointed to Genesis 12:1-3 and Matthew 28:19 and said God blesses us so that we can bless others — the blessing isn't meant to stop with us. Does that reframe how you think about the good things God has given you — your gifts, your finances, your time? What might look different if you held those things with an open hand?

6. Passing It On Psalm 78:4 says we are not to hide what God has done from the next generation. Who in your life right now — a child, a younger friend, a coworker, a neighbor — needs to hear or see the faith you've been given? What's one thing that might be holding you back from sharing it with them?

5. APPLICATION CHALLENGE

This week, identify one person in your life who is younger in faith — or has no faith at all — and do something intentional to share your heritage with them. This could be as simple as sending them a text with a scripture that changed your life and a one-sentence explanation of why it matters to you, inviting them to church or a small group, or sitting down over coffee and telling them one story of how God showed up for you. Make it personal, make it real, and make it happen before your group meets again.

6. PRAYER POINTS

• Pray for genuine hunger — Ask God to stir up a fresh thirst for His presence in each group member's heart this week, and to remove anything that has been dulling their appetite for Him.

• Pray for boldness to pass the heritage on — Ask God to bring to mind the specific person each group member needs to reach, and to give them the courage and the words to do it without fear of what others might think.

• Pray for the next generation — Ask God to raise up young men and women from this church and from our families who will carry the heritage of faith, revival, and missions further than we ever could on our own.

7. MEMORY VERSE

Habakkuk 2:4b (NKJV) "The just shall live by his faith."

Write it on a sticky note. Put it somewhere you'll see it every morning this week — your mirror, your dashboard, your coffee maker. Let it be a daily reminder that faith isn't just something you believe on Sunday. It's how you're called to live.
