Resurrection Power
Resurrection power is the greatest force in existence, greater than physical strength, horsepower, rocket thrust, or atomic energy, because only God can take something dead and make it live again. Pastor Hufton unpacks how sin entered through one man (Adam), bringing spiritual death upon all humanity, and how one man (Jesus) broke that curse entirely. As the sinless Lamb of God, Jesus didn't merely die on the cross, He descended into hell, stripped Satan of his authority over mankind, and rose triumphant, holding the keys of hell and death. The turning point came through a gripping account of Larry Huggins, who overdosed, found himself descending into hell, and encountered Jesus himself. 1. Laying the Foundation Pastor Mirek listed several kinds of power — physical strength, horsepower, thrust, atomic energy — and then said resurrection power surpasses them all. In your own words, what makes resurrection power uniquely different from every other kind of power? Why does it matter that a man accomplished it?
"For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead." — 1 Corinthians 15:21
2. Getting Honest About the Veil Pastor Mirek described a spiritual veil that keeps people from truly seeing who Jesus is and what He has done. Have you ever experienced a moment when that veil began to lift for you — when the gospel stopped being just information and became real and personal? What was happening in your life at that time?
3. The Cross and the Lamb John the Baptist declared Jesus "the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world" (John 1:29). Pastor Mirek said the cross is where Jesus became our substitute — bearing our sin so that its penalty would fall on Him instead of us. How does understanding Jesus as your substitute — not just your example or teacher — change the way you relate to Him day to day?
4. Facing the Reality of Death Hebrews 2:14 tells us Jesus took on flesh and blood specifically so that "through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil." Pastor Mirek pointed out that the fear of death keeps people in bondage their whole lives. Do you think most people — even churchgoers — really live free from that fear? What does it practically look like to live as someone who has "passed from death to life"?
5. Resurrection in Everyday Life Pastor Mirek said Jesus is in the resurrection business — marriages, prodigal children, broken bodies, cold hearts toward God. Where in your own life, or in the life of someone you love, do you most need to believe that resurrection power is still at work right now? What makes it hard to trust that in that specific situation?

Authority We Often Forget Pastor Mirek made the bold statement that through Jesus, we who were once slaves of Satan have become his masters — because the same resurrection power that conquered hell now lives inside every believer. Does that feel true in your daily experience? What gets in the way of walking in that kind of authority, and what might change if you genuinely believed it?
5. APPLICATION CHALLENGE
This week, identify one area of your life where you have accepted "death" as the final word.
Maybe it's a relationship you've written off, a habit you believe will never change, a dream you buried, or a family member you've stopped praying for with real faith. Write it down on a piece of paper. Then, every morning for the next seven days, read Ephesians 1:19-20 out loud over that situation and pray this simple prayer: "Jesus, You are the resurrection and the life. I bring this before You and I refuse to stop believing You can make it live again." Come back next week ready to share what shifted — even if it was just something inside you.

Pray for eyes to be opened. Ask God to lift the spiritual veil off specific people in your lives — friends, family members, coworkers — who have never truly seen who Jesus is. Name them out loud if you feel comfortable doing so.

Pray for resurrection in dead places. Bring before God the situations your group named in Question 5. Ask Him to move in those places with the same power that raised Jesus from the dead — and ask Him to grow your faith to keep believing while you wait.

Pray for boldness to share the good news. Pastor Mirek reminded us that Jesus commissioned us to go and unlock prison doors for other people. Ask God to give your group specific opportunities this week to share the hope of the resurrection — and the courage to take them.

Leader's Tip: Don't rush through the discussion questions — it's perfectly fine to spend most of your time on just two or three of them if the conversation is genuine and going deep. The goal isn't to cover everything; it's to help people leave having encountered the living Jesus, not just talked about Him.

The Greatest Power You'll Ever Know
Ephesians 1:19-20 — "And what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power, which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead."
I want you to think about power for a moment. We talk about horsepower in engines, thrust in rockets, even the raw strength of athletes. But none of that compares to what I'm about to share with you. The greatest power in existence isn't physical — it's resurrection power. It's the power that took a dead man, the Son of God Himself, and brought Him roaring back to life. And here's what gets me every single time I read this passage — Paul says that same power is directed *toward us who believe*. Not stored away somewhere. Not reserved for special occasions. It's aimed directly at you and me, right now, today. Whatever feels dead in your life this Monday morning — your hope, your joy, your faith — resurrection power is available to you. God is not finished with you yet.
Father, thank You that the same power that raised Jesus from the dead is working in my life right now. Open my eyes today to see Your resurrection power at work around me. I receive it by faith. Amen.
One Man Changed Everything
1 Corinthians 15:21 — "For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all died, even so in Christ all shall be made alive."
I love the beautiful, almost shocking symmetry of this verse. One man, Adam, opened a door that let death and sin flood into the human race. It spread to every one of us like a curse we didn't ask for. But here's the good news I never get tired of preaching — because the problem came through a man, God chose to send the solution through a man too. Jesus. Fully human, fully God, walking this earth in our skin. He wasn't distant from our struggle. He entered it. He felt the weight of sin, the shadow of death, and He conquered both. That means His resurrection isn't just a theological fact to admire from a distance. It's deeply, personally yours. Whatever Adam lost for you, Jesus bought back. Whatever death stole, resurrection restores. You are not defined by what one man lost — you are defined by what one Man won.
Jesus, thank You for becoming a man so You could rescue me as a man. I'm so grateful that what Adam lost, You completely restored. Help me to walk today in the fullness of everything You won for me. Amen.
The Lamb Who Took It All Away
John 1:29 — "The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, 'Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!'"
When John the Baptist pointed at Jesus and cried out those words, he was saying something the religious world had never heard quite like that before. Not "a lamb" — *the* Lamb. The final one. The one every sacrifice in Israel's history had been pointing toward. I want you to let that land in your heart today. Jesus didn't just reduce your sin, manage your sin, or put your sin on a payment plan. He *takes it away*. Gone. Removed. The blood He shed on that cross wasn't symbolic — it was the most powerful cleansing agent the universe has ever known. Whatever you've done, whatever shame you've carried, whatever your past looks like — the Lamb of God has already dealt with it completely. You don't have to drag that weight another step. The cross was never meant to be just a piece of jewelry. It was meant to be your freedom.
Lord Jesus, You are the Lamb of God and I am so grateful You came for me. Thank You that my sin isn't just covered — it's taken away. Help me to live today in the freedom Your blood purchased. Amen.
Death Has Lost Its Power Over You
Hebrews 2:14 — "Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil."
This verse stopped me in my tracks the first time I really read it carefully. Jesus didn't just die *for* us — He died *strategically*. Through His own death, He destroyed the one who wielded death as a weapon against us. Think about that. Satan's greatest tool, the thing he used to keep the whole human race living in fear and bondage — Jesus walked straight into it and dismantled it from the inside out. I've seen people paralyzed by the fear of death their whole lives. That fear keeps you from really living. But the resurrection declares that death is not the end of your story — it's just a doorway. Jesus holds the keys of hell and death, the Bible says. He took them. They belong to Him. And because you belong to Him, death has absolutely no final authority over your life. You can live boldly, freely, and without fear today.
Father, thank You that Jesus destroyed the power of death so I don't have to live in fear. I declare today that death has no hold on me because I belong to the risen Christ. Help me to live boldly in that freedom. Amen.
Resurrection Is Your New Normal
Ephesians 2:5-6 — "Even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus."
I want to end this week by reminding you of who you actually are. The Bible doesn't say God is *going to* make you alive — it says He *has* made you alive. Past tense. Done. Finished. You've been raised up *with* Christ and seated in heavenly places *with* Him. That's your spiritual address right now, even while you're sitting at your kitchen table or driving to work. Resurrection power isn't just something Jesus demonstrated for us to applaud — it's something He deposited *inside* us. When you received Christ, that same power that raised Him from the dead came to live inside you. So when life hits hard, when situations look impossible, when the enemy whispers that it's over — you have something to stand on. You are a resurrection person. Dead things come alive around you because the Author of resurrection lives inside you. Go into your weekend knowing that.
Jesus, thank You that resurrection isn't just Your story — it's mine too. Help me to live this weekend fully aware of the power living inside me. I want dead things to come alive because You are in me. Amen.
