Living Your Best Life

Living Your Best Life Today

Pastor Mirek Hufton · 2026-06-07

Pastor Mirek Hufton Jesus didn't come merely to secure our place in heaven, He came to transform every dimension of our lives right now. Pastor Mirek Hufton challenges believers to stop settling for spiritual mediocrity and pursue God's genuine best: divine health, provision, and purpose. Three practical keys unlock this abundant life: prioritizing God's Word as a living, active force, not casual religious reading; developing an eye of faith that sees what God promises before circumstances confirm it; and guarding your words, aligning your mouth with God's promises rather than your problems. Pastor Hufton shared how, standing broke and discouraged on the Blue Ridge Parkway as a young man, he chose to declare what God could do rather than what had failed. Decades later, those specific declarations, global ministry, a thriving church, international missions, have become reality. The sermon closes with a pointed challenge: excellence in God's kingdom should surpass excellence in any workplace. Choose the Word. See the promise. Speak the future.

Living Your Best Life Today

Small Group Discussion Guide

Based on the message by Pastor Mirek Hufton

1. SERMON RECAP

Jesus didn't come just to get us to heaven someday — He came to give us a full, abundant, overflowing life right now. To step into that better life, we have to take three things seriously: investing deeply in God's Word, developing an eye of faith that sees what God promises before we see it in the natural, and guarding our mouths so that what we speak lines up with where God is taking us. Average was never God's plan for any of us — He's calling us to shoot for the stars.

2. KEY SCRIPTURE

John 10:10 (NKJV) "The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly."

3. ICE BREAKER

Think of one area of your life that has genuinely gotten better since you started following Jesus — could be big or small. Would anyone like to share what that was?

4. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

1. Pastor Mirek said there's a difference between a "good" life in Christ and God's absolute best for your life. What do you think holds most believers — including yourself — back from pursuing that greater "better"?

(Give people room to be honest here. There are no wrong answers — comfort zones, fear of failure, past wounds, and busyness all come up in healthy groups.)

2. Pastor Mirek described being overly familiar with the Bible as one of our greatest dangers. What does that actually look like in everyday life, and have you ever caught yourself treating Scripture more like a religious habit than a living voice from God?

(Encourage honesty. This is a safe space — most of us have been there.)

3. He talked about the "law of faith" — that the Word of God works like a seed and produces a return when you genuinely invest it in your heart. Has there been a season in your life when being in the Word consistently made a visible difference? What changed, and what made that season happen?

(This question invites testimony. Let stories breathe — they encourage everyone in the room.)

4. Pastor Mirek described standing on a roadside overlook, broke and discouraged, and choosing to speak expectations over his future out loud — even when nothing around him confirmed it. What does that kind of "eye of faith" look like practically for someone in a hard season right now? What makes it feel risky or even foolish?

(This is a good vulnerability question. Don't rush past it.)

5. He was pretty direct that the words we speak — positive or negative — are pulling our future toward us. Do you find that easy to believe, or does part of you push back on it? What life experience shapes how you feel about this?

(This one will get lively. Some people love this idea; others struggle with it. Both responses are worth exploring together.)

6. Discipline came up as a key word — the kind of focus that chooses the Word, guards the mouth, and keeps faith active even when feelings say otherwise. Where in your own life do you feel God nudging you toward more intentional spiritual discipline right now?

(Keep this personal and grace-filled. Nobody should feel condemned — just honestly challenged.)

5. APPLICATION CHALLENGE

This week, choose one specific promise from Scripture that speaks directly to a challenge you are currently facing. Write it on a sticky note, an index card, or the lock screen of your phone. Read it out loud — actually speak it, don't just think it — every morning when you wake up and every evening before bed. At your next group meeting, be ready to share which verse you chose and what the week felt like.

This isn't magic — it's practicing what Pastor Mirek preached: investing the Word, seeing with the eye of faith, and lining your mouth up with where God is taking you.

6. PRAYER POINTS

  • Pray for a deeper hunger — Ask God to stir up a genuine appetite for His Word in every person in the group, not as a duty but as a delight.

  • Pray for eyes of faith — Bring before God the specific situations in your group where people need to see what He has promised before they can see it in the natural — marriages, finances, health, calling, or family.

  • Pray for guarded mouths — Ask the Holy Spirit to make each person quickly aware this week when their words are pulling them away from God's best, and give them the courage to redirect their speech toward His promises.

7. MEMORY VERSE

Psalm 84:11 (NKJV) "For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly."

Leader tip: Don't feel pressure to get through every question. A great conversation on two or three questions is worth far more than rushing through all six. Let the Holy Spirit lead the room.

Jesus Came to Make Your Life Better

John 10:10 — "The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly."

I want you to hear this straight from my heart — Jesus didn't come to make your life miserable. He didn't come to give you a long list of rules and leave you struggling. He came to make your life genuinely, supernaturally better. The Message translation puts it so beautifully — He came to give you "a more and better life than you ever dreamed of." Whatever your life looks like today, Jesus wants to improve it. Not just spiritually, not just after you die, but right now — in your relationships, your health, your provision, your peace. I've watched this truth transform my own life from a lukewarm, compromising believer into someone fully surrendered and fully alive. The moment I went all in with Jesus, everything changed. That same transformation is available to you, starting today. Don't settle for less than what He paid for.

Lord, thank You that You came to give me a full, overflowing, abundant life. Help me to stop settling for less than what You purchased for me at the cross. I choose today to believe You want better for me than I've been accepting. In Jesus' name, amen.

Write down one area of your life where you've been settling for less than God's best, and declare out loud: "Jesus came to make this better."

The Word Is Your Lifeline

Psalm 19:7 — "The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple."

I made a decision as a young man on a college campus that changed the entire direction of my life — I made the Word of God my number one priority. I was done playing religious games. I was all in. And I'm telling you from experience, this Book is not dead. It is alive. It is powerful. When I invested hours in the Word every week, something shifted in me. Giants that looked enormous began to shrink. Courage I didn't naturally have began to rise up. This isn't just a self-help book — it's God's voice recorded in writing. Every promise, every command, every principle carries supernatural power when you plant it in your heart. Don't become overly familiar with the Word to the point you stop treating it like the treasure it is. The more you invest in it, the greater the return. Make it your lifeline today.

Father, forgive me for the times I've treated Your Word casually. Help me to hunger for it the way I hunger for food and crave it more than anything my phone or television offers. Let it transform me from the inside out. In Jesus' name, amen.

Turn off your phone or social media for 30 minutes today and spend that time reading one chapter of Proverbs or the Gospel of John, slowly and prayerfully.

Develop the Eye of Faith

2 Corinthians 4:18 — "While we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal."

I remember standing alone on the Blue Ridge Parkway, broke and discouraged after a business failure, and I made a decision that changed my future. I refused to accept what I could see. Instead, I began to see what God had for me — preaching, traveling the world, building a church that sends people to the nations. Every single thing I saw with my eyes of faith is now happening. Friend, you have to see it before you see it. That's not wishful thinking — that's biblical faith. Oral Roberts saw an entire university campus when it was just an empty field. What has God put in your heart that your circumstances are telling you is impossible? Stop staring at the problem and start seeing the promise. Expectation is a powerful spiritual force. What you genuinely expect has a way of pulling the invisible into the visible.

Lord, open the eyes of my faith today. Help me to stop being dominated by what I can see and start believing for what You have promised. I choose to see my future through Your Word, not through my circumstances. In Jesus' name, amen.

Spend five minutes quietly imagining — in specific detail — one positive future God has promised you in His Word. Write it down and keep it somewhere visible.

Watch Your Mouth

Proverbs 12:6 — "The mouth of the upright will deliver them."

I have to be honest with you — God is still working on my mouth, and I'm not shy about admitting it. Just recently after eight hours of prayer, I caught myself running my mouth negatively about a situation I'd been trusting God for. The Lord corrected me immediately. Here's what I've learned — your mouth is not neutral. It either works for you or against you. Mark 11:23 makes it plain: you will have what you say. If you speak defeat, failure, sickness, and impossibility, you are drawing those things toward you. But when you align your words with what God says — when you call things that be not as though they are — you are releasing faith into the atmosphere. I've watched Sister Nikki declare for years that she would be a millionaire for the kingdom, and now she's standing on the edge of a breakthrough. Your words are shaping your destiny every single day.

Lord, put a watch over my mouth today. When negativity rises up, help me pause and choose words that agree with Your promises instead. I want my mouth to deliver me, not defeat me. In Jesus' name, amen.

Every time you're tempted to speak something negative about your situation today, stop and replace it with one specific promise from God's Word instead.

Choose God's Best — Don't Settle for Average

Psalm 84:11 — "For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly."

I don't want to be an ordinary Christian — I want to be extraordinary. I want my life to count. When I cross that finish line, I want to hear Jesus say, "Well done, good and faithful servant," not just, "Well, whatever." Friend, God has promised that He will withhold no good thing from those who walk uprightly before Him. That word upright means undivided — your whole heart committed to pleasing Him. But here's the truth I need you to hear as we close out this week — living your best life requires a decision. It takes discipline. It takes investing in the Word, developing your eye of faith, and guarding your mouth. You can't be average and expect extraordinary results. Don't shoot for the ceiling when God has put the stars within your reach. Make the choice today — all in, no compromise, shooting for God's absolute best for your life.

Father, I choose today to stop being average. I commit to giving You my whole heart — undivided and all in. Help me to walk uprightly so that none of Your good promises are withheld from my life. In Jesus' name, amen.

Write out this declaration and speak it aloud three times today: "I refuse to settle for average. Jesus came to give me abundant life, and I receive His best for my life today."
