Start here — keep it light and fun!
Think about a time you got dressed up for a really important occasion — a wedding, a job interview, a big event. How did wearing the right outfit change the way you carried yourself that day?
4. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
Question 1 — Opening Up the Text In Romans 1:16-17, Paul says he's "not ashamed of the gospel" because it's "the power of God" and in it "the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith." What do you think it looks like practically for righteousness to be revealed in someone's life over time? Have you noticed this kind of progression in your own walk with God?
Question 2 — Getting Personal with the Scripture In 2 Corinthians 7:2, Paul boldly says, "We have wronged no one, we have corrupted no one, we have cheated no one" — even though his past included persecuting and killing Christians. What do you think made it possible for Paul to say something like that with such confidence? What would it take for you to have that kind of settled assurance before God?
Question 3 — Challenging Our Thinking I said in the sermon that religion is "man's cure for unrighteousness" — but it doesn't actually work. Where do you see people (maybe even yourself) trying to earn a sense of right standing with God through rules, rituals, or religious activity instead of resting in what Jesus already did? Why do you think that's such a common trap?
Question 4 — Going Deeper I talked about how unrighteous acts become a weapon the enemy uses against our faith — leading to guilt, condemnation, and eventually weak or absent prayer lives. On the flip side, I said righteous actions are also a weapon — they push back the flesh and keep faith strong. Do you agree with that? Can you share an example from your own life where staying active and intentional for God helped you get through a tough season?
Question 5 — Wrestling with Reality I made a distinction between knowing righteousness mentally and having it become a genuine revelation in your spirit. What's the difference between the two in your experience? What has helped — or what do you think would help — move something from head knowledge to a deep heart reality?
Question 6 — Bringing It Home I said, "The level of your faith will equal the level of your understanding of your right standing with God." If that's true, what might it mean for areas in your life where your faith feels weak or shaky right now — in healing, finances, relationships, or purpose? What's one thing from this message that you want to grab hold of in those areas?
5. APPLICATION CHALLENGE
One specific, doable step this week:
Pick three righteousness scriptures from this message — such as 2 Corinthians 5:21, Romans 5:1, or Isaiah 61:10 — and write them on index cards or in your phone. Every morning this week, read them out loud and follow them with this declaration: "I am righteous before God right now. I have right standing with Him today." Pay attention to whether — and how — your confidence in prayer shifts by the end of the week. Come back to group next time ready to share what you noticed.

For courage to act righteously — Ask God to stir up a hunger in each person to use righteous actions as a weapon — to stay busy for Him, to serve, to give, and to keep moving forward in purpose rather than sitting as easy targets for the enemy.

Daily Devotional
You Are Already Righteous
2 Corinthians 5:21 — "For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him."
I want you to hear this clearly today — you are not waiting to become righteous. You already are. Right now. Not when you die, not when you've cleaned up your act, not when you feel worthy enough. Right now, in Christ, you are spotless, blameless, and declared righteous by God Himself. I know that can feel hard to believe, especially when yesterday wasn't your best day. But this is not about your performance — it's about what Jesus did on the cross. He took your sin and handed you His righteousness in return. That's a trade only God could make. When I got a hold of this truth years ago, something settled in my spirit — a rest, a peace I hadn't known before. I want that for you today. Let it sink in. You are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.
Father, thank You for making me righteous through Jesus — not because of anything I've done, but because of everything He did. Help me receive that truth today, not just in my head but deep in my heart. I choose to rest in my right standing with You right now. Amen.
The Power Hidden in the Gospel
Romans 1:16-17 — "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes... For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith."
Paul didn't just say the gospel contains power — he said the gospel IS the power of God. And right at the centre of that power is righteousness. I love this verse because it tells us righteousness is revealed progressively, from faith to faith. That means wherever you are today, you can grow deeper into understanding how right you are with God. And the deeper that revelation goes, the stronger your faith becomes. I've seen it in my own life — the more I understand my right standing with God, the bolder I become in prayer, the more peace I carry, and the less fear has a grip on me. This isn't head knowledge. It's a revelation that changes how you walk, how you pray, and how you face every challenge. Don't be ashamed of this gospel. It is your power source.
Lord, I want more than just knowing about righteousness — I want a real revelation of it. Deepen my understanding from faith to faith, and let that revelation fuel my boldness today. Thank You that Your gospel is my power. Amen.
Wash Out the Guilt
Romans 8:1 — "There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit."
One of the enemy's favourite weapons against us is guilt and condemnation. He knows that if he can keep you feeling unworthy, he can keep your faith weak. Unworthiness destroys faith — I've said it before and I'll keep saying it. When I was fighting cancer, I made sure I cleared the deck with God — I reached out, I repented, I made things right. But then I drew a line. I moved on. Because you cannot receive from heaven when you're sideways, constantly weighed down by what you've already brought to God. Yes, examine your heart. Yes, make things right. But then stand up straight and remind yourself — there is NO condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. The guilt is not from God. Wash it out with the Word. Speak it over yourself daily until it becomes more real than the feeling.
Father, I refuse to carry condemnation today — You've already dealt with my sin through Jesus. Help me draw a line, move forward, and receive from You with both feet planted in Your Word. I am free in Jesus' name. Amen.
Use Righteousness as a Weapon
Romans 6:13 — "Do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God."
I want you to see something powerful in this verse — the word "instrument" is the same word as "weapon." That means your righteous actions are weapons. Every time you choose to serve, to pray, to show up, to give, to speak truth — you are picking up a weapon and using it against the enemy's plan for your life. When I was a young man, I made a decision to stay busy for God. Not out of performance or religion, but because I knew an idle life left me vulnerable. Righteousness in action crushes the power of sin. It keeps your faith sharp and your spirit strong. You don't have to be passive and hope sin doesn't find you — go on the offensive. Fill your life with righteous acts. Serve a child. Visit someone lonely. Pray for an hour. These aren't just good deeds — they are weapons in the hand of a righteous believer.
Lord, I want to be intentional today — help me pick up the weapon of righteous action and use it. Show me one person to serve, one thing to do for Your kingdom that will strengthen my spirit and push back the darkness. I'm alive from the dead and I want to live like it. Amen.
Bold as a Lion
Proverbs 28:1 — "The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are as bold as a lion."
I've stood in some dangerous places — northern Nigeria, streets where kidnappings happen, regions where the gospel costs people everything. And I can tell you, the peace I carried in those moments didn't come from my own courage. It came from knowing I was right with God. When you are established in your righteousness, fear loses its grip. The righteous are as bold as a lion — not because they're fearless by nature, but because they know Whose they are. That boldness flows from your right standing with God. It fuels your prayers, your witness, your willingness to step out and do something that looks impossible. I am not winding down, and neither should you. To the day I die, I want to be doing something for Jesus. That drive comes from this foundation — I am right with God, and He hears me, He's with me, and He goes before me. Let that make you bold today.
Father, I receive the boldness that comes from knowing I am righteous in You. Let fear have no place in me today — in my prayers, my conversations, my decisions. I am Yours, and I will walk like it. In Jesus' name. Amen.
