Five Keys to Divine Increase - Key 2, Love God's Word
Drawing from Psalm 119:97, "O how I love your law!", Pastor Mirek Hufton challenges the congregation to move beyond religious routine and fall genuinely in love with God's Word. The central message is simple but urgent: you cannot claim to love God while neglecting His Word. Like Mary who chose to sit at Jesus' feet rather than busy herself with distractions, every believer must make a deliberate choice to prioritize Scripture. As 2 Timothy 3:16 declares, all Scripture is God-breathed, and John 1:4 reminds us that life itself is found in Him, the living Word. Pastor Hufton shared how during a seven-year federal investigation, specific scriptures, including Isaiah 41:10 and Exodus 14:14, became his daily anchor, providing peace when circumstances demanded fear. The Word, he taught, carries power to heal, save, sanctify, and break every bondage. Your spirit grows only through feeding on Scripture, nothing else substitutes. The challenge: Make 2020 the year you get into God's Word like never before.

"Five Keys to Divine Increase — Key 2: Love God's Word"
Based on the teaching of Pastor Mirek Hufton
1. SERMON RECAP
In this message, I challenged us to move beyond religious routine and fall genuinely in love with God's Word, because the Word is not just ink on a page — it is living, breathing spiritual food for our recreated spirits. Just as Mary chose to sit at Jesus' feet rather than be distracted by the busyness around her, we each face a daily choice about whether the Word gets priority in our lives. I made it clear that every problem we face — sickness, fear, financial pressure, bondage — has an answer in Scripture, and that getting the Word deep into our hearts is the only pathway from natural living into the fullness of spiritual life.
2. KEY SCRIPTURES
Ephesians 5:26 "…that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word."
2 Timothy 3:16 "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness."
John 1:4 "In Him was life, and the life was the light of men."
3. ICE BREAKER
Start here — keep it light and fun!
Think about a book, song, or movie you once loved so much you could quote it from memory. What was it, and why did it grab you so deeply?
Leader note: Let a few people share and enjoy the laughter. Then gently bridge to the idea of what it would look like to have that same kind of passionate connection with God's Word.
4. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
Question 1 — Opening the Conversation I used the story of Mary and Martha from Luke 10 to illustrate how busyness can crowd out the Word. Without pointing fingers at anyone else, where does the "Martha tendency" show up most in your own life — and what does it typically push the Word out for?
Question 2 — Going Deeper I said, "If you're too busy to read the Word, you're too busy — and honestly, it's a pride issue." That's a pretty direct statement! How do you react to hearing it framed that way? Do you think pride really plays a role in neglecting Scripture, or does something else get in the way for you?
Question 3 — Scripture Connection Read 2 Timothy 3:16 together out loud. I emphasized that all Scripture is God-breathed — even the genealogy lists, even the hard passages. Has there ever been a verse or passage you initially dismissed or found boring, but later it came alive and spoke directly to something you were going through? What happened?
Question 4 — Personal Honesty I mentioned that the Word of God is spiritual food — that your spirit literally feeds and grows through it the way your body grows through meals. If we're honest, how would you describe your current "spiritual diet"? Balanced and nourishing? Skipping meals? Running on junk food?
Question 5 — Life Application I shared that when I was fighting sickness and given 90 days to live, I went deep into the Word specifically on healing — finding every promise, every scripture, every teaching I could on that one subject. What area of your life right now most needs the Word to speak into it? What would it look like to go after Scripture on that topic with that same kind of focused intensity?
Question 6 — Challenge and Growth I said that "the more you get in the Word, the more humble your heart will become, and the less touchy you'll be." Do you believe that's true? Have you seen it in someone you know — or even in your own life during a season when you were consistently in the Word?
5. APPLICATION CHALLENGE
One specific, achievable action for the week ahead:
This week, identify ONE area of your life where you need God's answer — whether it's fear, a relationship, finances, health, or anything else. Then spend at least 10 minutes each day for the next seven days reading and speaking Scripture specifically related to that area.
To get started, write down your one area right now, look up two or three verses that speak to it (use a Bible app's search or ask your leader for help), and write those verses somewhere you'll see them daily — your phone wallpaper, a sticky note on your mirror, or a notecard in your car. Don't just read them — say them out loud at least once a day.
Leader note: Encourage people to share their chosen topic with a trusted partner in the group so someone can check in with them by the end of the week.
6. PRAYER POINTS
Close your time together by praying specifically over these three things:
-
Hunger for the Word — Ask God to supernaturally stir up a genuine passion and appetite for Scripture in each person in the group, replacing religious duty with real delight.
-
Revelation and Understanding — Pray that the Holy Spirit would open the eyes of understanding for each member, so that when they open their Bible this week, the Word comes alive with fresh meaning and personal application.
-
Breakthrough Through the Word — Pray over the specific needs people identified in Question 5 — that as they seek God through Scripture this week, they would begin to experience the life, healing, freedom, and provision that the Word carries.
7. MEMORY VERSE
Psalm 119:97 "Oh, how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day."
Write it down. Put it on your phone. Say it when you wake up. Let it become a declaration over your week.
Thank you for leading your group this week. What you're doing matters — keep pressing forward!

The Word Is Alive — And It's Yours
John 1:4 — "In Him was life, and the life was the light of men."
I want you to understand something that changed my life: when you hold your Bible, you are holding Him. Not a collection of ancient advice. Not a religious rulebook. You are holding the living Word of God. Jesus Himself is called the Word — "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." That means every time you open this book, you are opening a direct line to the source of all life. I think about Mary sitting at Jesus' feet while Martha rushed around. Mary made a choice. She recognized that something greater than daily demands was right in front of her. That same life — that same Jesus — is available to you every single morning before the noise begins. You don't have to earn it. You just have to choose it, like Mary did. Choose life today.
Lord, open my eyes to see that Your Word is not just ink on a page — it is You. Give me the hunger today to sit at Your feet like Mary. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Your Spirit Needs This Food
2 Timothy 3:16 — "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness."
I tell people this all the time — you can come to church for twenty years and still be a spiritual midget if you're not in the Word. That sounds blunt, but I say it because I love you. Here's the truth: your spirit man feeds and develops only through the Word of God. Not through movies. Not through a walk in the park. Not even through a good conversation with a wise friend. Only through the Word. Every single word in this book is God-breathed — inspired by the Holy Ghost. That means it carries His life in it. When you take it in consistently, something shifts. Your thinking gets washed. Your faith gets fed. Your spirit gets strong. I remember standing on Isaiah 41:10 through years of trial, and those words became steel fortifications on the inside of me. That's what the Word does. It builds you from the inside out.
Father, I confess I haven't always treated Your Word as the food my spirit desperately needs. Today I choose to feed my spirit first. Make every word come alive in me. Amen.
The Word Washes You Clean
Ephesians 5:26 — "That He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word."
I love this picture the Holy Ghost gives us in Ephesians — the Word as water, washing you clean. Think about what water does. It removes the grime you didn't even notice was building up. That's exactly what the Word does for your mind. Every week the world piles things onto you — doubt, fear, wrong thinking, other people's opinions, bad news, pressure. If you go two or three weeks without the Word, you get barnacled up. I've seen it happen, and honestly, I've felt it myself. But here's the good news: God doesn't condemn you for the grime. He just wants you to step into the wash. Let the Word rinse off the stinky thinking, the unclean thinking, the fearful thinking. He can clean your mind, and when He cleans your mind, He cleans your life. Come to the washing today. The water is warm and the Word is waiting.
Jesus, wash my mind today with Your Word. Wherever fear or wrong thinking has crept in, let Your truth rinse it clean. I trust the washing. Amen.
Choose the Better Part
Luke 10:42 — "But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her."
I can see Martha in so many of us — checklists running, always planning, always producing, always doing. And there's nothing wrong with being productive. But Jesus was in the house, and Martha missed Him. She was too busy serving the moment to sit with the Master. I'm not pointing a finger — I'm pointing a mirror. How many of us rush past the Word every morning because there's too much to do? I want to be honest with you: if you're too busy to read the Word, you're too busy. That's a pride issue dressed up as a schedule issue. Mary made a deliberate choice. She could have helped Martha. She chose differently. And Jesus said that choice — sitting at His feet, receiving His Word — would never be taken from her. I challenge you today to make Mary's choice. Let the dishes wait five minutes. Let the emails wait. Sit at His feet first.
Lord, forgive me for the days I've run past You to get things done. Help me to choose the better part — to sit at Your feet before I step into my day. Amen.
Set Your Heart on These Words — They Are Your Life
Deuteronomy 32:46-47 — "Set your hearts on all the words which I testify among you today… for it is not a futile thing for you, because it is your life."
Moses wrote an entire song about God's faithfulness, and at the very end he looked at the people and said: set your hearts on these words. Not your schedules. Not your ambitions. Not your fears. These words. Because this is not idle talk — this is your life. I prophesy over you today that 2020 — or whatever year you're reading this — can be your year of increase through the Word. Not because of how smart you are or how hard you work, but because you made a decision: I am going to be a person of the Word. I am going to read it, study it, speak it, and let it build a life nothing can shake. I've stood on this Word through trials, through sickness, through impossibilities. It has never failed me. It won't fail you either. Set your heart on it. These words are your life.
Father, I set my heart on Your Word today. I declare that it is not background noise in my life — it is my life. Give me passion, give me hunger, give me revelation. In Jesus' mighty name, Amen.
