The Way Is Narrow
Following up on last week's message about righteousness as our weapon, Pastor Chris tackled one of Christianity's most uncomfortable truths: the way to God is narrow, exclusive, and will cost you something, even though salvation itself is a free gift. Drawing on his own struggle with people-pleasing, Pastor Chris challenged the congregation to stop confusing "being nice" with being faithful. When we soften the gospel to avoid offending people, we're serving our own reputation rather than Christ's. Jesus himself was rejected repeatedly, even nearly thrown off a cliff, and he never chased people down or changed his message to keep them comfortable. In a memorable illustration, Pastor Chris compared salvation to losing weight: "It's free, but it'll cost you comfort." The gift costs nothing to receive, but everything to walk out. The bottom line: our job isn't to win the sale. It's to sow the seed faithfully, trust the Holy Spirit with the harvest, and stop being afraid of the word "no."

4. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
Question 1 — Opening the Door Revelation 3:20 pictures Jesus knocking at the door of a heart, waiting to be invited in. Pastor Chris highlighted that the door handle is on the inside — the choice belongs to us.
What does it mean to you personally that Jesus waits and knocks rather than forcing his way in? How does that shape the way you think about God's character?
Question 2 — The Narrow Way Pastor Chris was clear that the way is narrow — not to be exclusive or elitist, but because truth by nature is specific.
How do you respond when someone in your life pushes back and says Christianity is "too narrow-minded"? What helps you hold that tension with both conviction and grace?
Question 3 — Sowing vs. Winning He reminded us that our responsibility is to sow the seed, not to guarantee the harvest. He pointed out that the Bible says the harvest is plentiful and the laborers are few — not "only labor if the results look good."
Is there a difference in how you feel when you think about your job as a "seed sower" rather than someone who has to "close the deal"? How might that shift in perspective change how you approach faith conversations?
Question 4 — Facing the Nos Pastor Chris encouraged the group that every no is one step closer to a yes, and that being rejected for sharing truth is very different from being rejected for being unkind.
Think of a time you hesitated to share your faith because you feared rejection or conflict. Looking back, what would you do differently — and what would you tell someone facing that same fear today?
Question 5 — Fear and Territory Pastor Chris used a vivid personal illustration about moving into a new home and choosing to claim it for the Lord rather than shrinking back in fear. He said our spiritual posture should be one of authority, not anxiety.
In what areas of your everyday life — your home, your workplace, your neighborhood — do you feel you have been timid where God might be calling you to be bold? What would "claiming that territory for the Lord" actually look like for you?
Question 6 — The Gift Is Free Romans 10:9 makes clear that salvation is received, not earned. Pastor Chris emphasized that the gift is genuinely free — and that this truth should fuel our urgency to share it, not make us complacent.
How do you keep the reality of the free gift of salvation feeling fresh and not routine in your own walk with God? And how does that freshness (or lack of it) affect how you talk about faith with others?
5. APPLICATION CHALLENGE
One specific, achievable action this week:
Identify one person in your life — a coworker, neighbor, family member, or friend — who has not yet heard the gospel from you. This week, take one intentional step toward them: send a text to check in, invite them to coffee, or simply pray for them by name every day until your next group meeting. Write their name down somewhere you will see it daily as a reminder to sow the seed.
6. PRAYER POINTS
Close your group time by praying specifically over these three things:

Boldness — Pray that each group member would feel the Holy Spirit's courage rising in them as they encounter everyday opportunities to share their faith, and that fear of rejection would lose its grip.

The Harvest — Pray by name (if your group is comfortable sharing) for the specific people each person identified in the Application Challenge — that their hearts would be softened and that they would be ready to open the door when Jesus knocks.

Faithfulness Over Results — Pray for a genuine shift in perspective across the group, trusting God with the outcome of every seed sown and resting in the truth that one soul saved sets all of heaven rejoicing.

Daily Devotional
Jesus Is the Only Door
Revelation 3:20 — "Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in."
I love this picture of Jesus — He's not breaking down your door, He's knocking. He's not forcing His way in. He's standing there, patient, personal, and persistent. That's the character of our God. He pursues you with gentleness, not pressure. But here's what I want you to catch — the door handle is on your side. He knocks, but you open. That's the beautiful tension of grace and free will living together. Jesus is the way. Not a way. Not one option on a spiritual menu. THE way. And He's standing right there, right now, knocking on hearts that maybe got a little busy, a little distracted, or a little hurt. Today, I want you to just stop and listen. Can you hear Him? That knock never really stopped.
Jesus, thank You for never walking away from my door. Help me to stop, listen, and open up every part of my heart to You today. I don't want to keep You waiting any longer, Lord.
Say It Out Loud
Romans 10:9 — "If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."
There's something powerful about saying it out loud. Paul didn't say just believe it quietly in your heart and keep it to yourself. He said openly declare it. I think about the people we see getting saved out on the streets — nearly 500 in a single month — and every single one of them had to say something out loud. Something shifted when they spoke it. Faith spoken is faith activated. And listen, if you're a believer sitting in this room or reading this right now, when did you last openly declare that Jesus is Lord? Not just in church where it's safe and comfortable. Out there. In your workplace. At your kitchen table with your family. In your neighborhood. The declaration matters. Your voice carries kingdom weight. Don't keep the greatest news in human history locked behind closed lips.
Lord, give me the boldness to declare Your name out loud today — not just in my heart but with my mouth. Let my words carry Your truth into every space I walk into.
Sow the Seed, Trust the Harvest
Matthew 9:37-38 — "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest."
Here's something I really want you to grab onto — your job is not to win the sale. Your job is to sow the seed. I see people hold back from sharing their faith because they're scared of a no, scared of awkward silence, scared of making someone uncomfortable. But we don't control the harvest — God does. We control whether we show up and plant. Every no you get is just one step closer to a yes. Some of the greatest yeses have a whole pile of nos sitting in front of them. The only way to reach that yes is to keep going. Don't measure your faithfulness by the response you get. Measure it by whether you showed up and were obedient. The seed you plant today could be the thing that completely wrecks someone's life — in the best possible way — five years from now.
God, help me stop waiting for perfect conditions to share Your love. Give me the courage to sow seeds today and trust You completely with the harvest.
Don't Run From the Narrow Road
Matthew 7:14 — "But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it."
The narrow road isn't a punishment — it's a protection. I know it doesn't always feel that way. Narrow feels restrictive. Narrow feels like you're missing out. But I want to flip that for you today. The narrow road is the one that actually leads somewhere worth going. The wide road is crowded and loud and looks like a party, but it ends badly. The narrow road? That's where you find real freedom, real peace, and a life that actually means something. And yes, people might get uncomfortable when you walk it. Yes, some people will push back when the truth you carry offends their spirit. Don't run from that. Don't soften it, don't water it down, and don't apologize for following Jesus. The gift is absolutely free, but the road requires that you actually follow it. Stay on it. It's worth every step.
Father, when the narrow road gets hard and lonely, remind me of where it leads. Give me the strength to stay the course and not drift toward what's easy over what's right.
Claim It for the Kingdom
Romans 10:13 — "For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."
I love that this verse says everyone. Not the qualified. Not the ones who have it all together. Not the people with the cleanest past or the most impressive testimony. Everyone who calls. That means the person you've been too afraid to witness to. That means the house that looked too dark to walk into. That means the neighborhood that seemed too far gone. I tell people — you move into a new space, you don't shrink back because of what happened there before. You cast out what doesn't belong, you claim that territory for the Lord, and you declare that this place belongs to Jesus now. That's not arrogance, that's authority. We've been given authority in the name of Jesus, and it's time we walk like we actually believe that. So go into your Friday, your weekend, your neighborhood — and walk like you carry the Kingdom inside you. Because you do.
Lord, thank You that Your salvation is open to everyone — including the people I've written off or been too afraid to reach. Fill me with holy boldness to walk in the authority You've already given me.
