"Five Keys to Divine Increase — Key 5: Love Purity"

1. SERMON RECAP

In my final message on the five keys to divine increase, I tackled what may be the most challenging key of all — loving purity. I walked us through what it truly means to pursue a pure heart, showing that while God has already made us holy through the blood of Jesus, He also calls us to actively walk that holiness out in our daily lives. The bottom line is this: purity is power, and the closer we draw to God by clearing sin out of our lives, the greater His anointing and blessing can flow through us.

Matthew 5:8 "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God."

3. ICE BREAKER

Think about a time you ordered food at a restaurant and something about it just seemed "off" — maybe it smelled strange, looked wrong, or tasted sour. What did you do, and how quickly did you make that call?

(Feel free to share my roach-in-the-potatoes story from Gatlinburg if the group needs a laugh to get warmed up — it tends to break the ice perfectly!)

4. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Question 1 — Opening the Conversation I said in the message that purity is not a popular topic in today's church culture, and that some people shut down the moment it comes up. Why do you think holiness and purity make so many Christians uncomfortable? Has there ever been a time when you felt resistant to this kind of teaching, and what was behind that reaction?

Question 2 — Digging into Scripture I shared that Romans 6:14 tells us "sin shall not have dominion over you." That's a powerful promise — but it's also a call to action. In your experience, what's the difference between knowing that sin doesn't have to control you and actually living like it doesn't? Where does that gap tend to show up most in everyday life?

Question 3 — The Two Sides of the Coin I made the point that God has already declared us holy through Christ, but He also expects us to walk that holiness out. I described it as God giving you 100% on the test and then saying, "Now go take the test." How do you hold those two truths together — grace that freely forgives and the personal responsibility to pursue purity — without falling into either guilt on one side or carelessness on the other?

Question 4 — Practical and Personal I gave four sources of sanctification: the Holy Spirit, the Word of God, the blood of Jesus, and our faith. Which of those four feels most real and accessible to you right now in your daily life, and which one do you feel like you're not drawing on nearly enough? What might it look like to lean into that one more intentionally?

Question 5 — Hebrews 12:1 and Your Race I referenced Hebrews 12:1 — "Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us." Everyone in this room has a specific race God designed for them. What is one "weight" in your life right now — it doesn't have to be a dramatic sin, it could be a habit, a distraction, or even a relationship pattern — that you sense is slowing you down from running your best?

Question 6 — Closing Reflection I ended the message by saying that loving purity comes down to one honest question: "How bad do you want Him?" As you reflect on this whole series — love God, love His Word, love His kingdom, love to obey, and love purity — where do you feel the most growth has happened in you? And where is God still knocking on the door, asking for more of you?

5. APPLICATION CHALLENGE

This week, choose ONE specific "boundary" to set that guards your purity in a practical area of your daily life.

Pick something concrete — maybe it's putting a content filter on your phone or laptop, choosing to walk away from a coworker's gossip conversation, turning off a show or podcast that pulls your mind in the wrong direction, or setting a daily alarm as a reminder to confess quickly when you slip up. Write it down, tell one person in this group what it is, and check in with that person by the end of the week. Small, specific, and accountable — that's how real change gets started.

6. PRAYER POINTS

• Pray for honest hearts — Ask God to give each person in the group the courage to be brutally honest with themselves about areas where sin or compromise has been quietly taking up space, and the grace to bring those things into the light without shame.

• Pray for the power to walk in purity — Ask the Holy Spirit to be the active sanctifier in each person's daily life this week — to prompt, correct, and strengthen every member of the group when temptation shows up at the door.

• Pray for our church as a whole — Ask God to make us a congregation that carries a clean, powerful anointing — a people whose purity opens the channel for His miracle power to flow freely through our community and into the lives of people who desperately need Him.

7. MEMORY VERSE

1 John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

Leader's Note: If conversation gets quiet on the harder questions, that's okay — sit with it. Sometimes the silence means the Holy Spirit is doing exactly what He needs to do. You don't have to fill every pause. Just keep the room safe, keep pointing people back to grace, and trust God to do the deep work.
