Choose To Be Chosen
Jesus declared, "Many are called, but few are chosen", meaning a calling alone guarantees nothing. Whether God uses your life depends entirely on how you respond to that call. Drawing from the lives of Saul, Samson, and David, Pastor Mirek Hufton shows why heart surrender, not talent, age, or experience, is what makes someone truly usable by God. Saul had every outward advantage but refused correction. Samson had supernatural strength but couldn't conquer his flesh. David, overlooked and alone in the fields, became a man after God's own heart precisely because of what happened in the secret place, developing excellence, courage, and passionate worship when no one was watching. Pastor Hufton challenges every believer to stop deflecting blame, drop excuses, and honestly face the inner work God is calling them to. Tests aren't punishments, they're preparation. You Have a Calling — Own It
Ephesians 1:4 — "He chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him."
I want you to sit with this truth for a moment — before the world even began, God had you in mind. He didn't choose you after you cleaned yourself up or figured everything out. He chose you before you drew your first breath. That means your life is not accidental. You are not taking up space. You carry a divine purpose that extends far beyond your job title, your bank account, or your current circumstances. I've watched people sit in church for years never truly believing this about themselves. Don't let that be you. Say it out loud today: "I have a calling from God upon my life." Say it until it moves from your head down into your heart. When you begin to see yourself the way God sees you — chosen, purposeful, and deeply loved — everything changes. Your calling is real. Now let's live like it.
Father, help me truly believe that You chose me before I was even born. Burn away every lie that says my life doesn't matter. I receive my calling today — with my whole heart. Amen.
Press — Don't Coast
Philippians 3:14 — "I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus."
Paul uses the Greek word *dioko* here — a running term meaning to pursue with everything you've got. I love that image. This isn't a leisurely stroll through the Christian life. This is a race, and every one of us is in it. The question isn't whether you're on the track — you are. The question is whether you're pressing or coasting. I've seen people coast. They show up, they sit, they smile, but their heart isn't truly engaged. They've gotten comfortable with where they are spiritually, never pushing further into what God has for them. But a mature believer — and Paul makes this clear in verse 15 — a mature believer presses. They feel the weight of the calling. They hear the footsteps behind them and they kick it in. Whatever weights are slowing you down today, it's time to shed them and run.
Lord, I don't want to coast through this life You've given me. Ignite something fresh in my spirit today — a holy hunger to press toward everything You have for me. Amen.
God is Looking at Your Heart
Hosea 6:6 — "For I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings."
When Samuel went to anoint the next king of Israel, he nearly made the same mistake we all make — he looked at the outward appearance. Tall. Strong. Impressive. Surely this is the one. But God stopped him and said something that still echoes through history: I don't look at what you look at. I look at the heart. David was out in the fields, no one watching, no applause, no audience — and he was worshiping. He was pressing into God in the secret place. That's what made him chosen. I want to ask you honestly today — what does your heart look like when no one is watching? Are you pursuing God privately, or only performing publicly? God is not impressed by how spiritual you appear on Sunday morning. He's moved by a heart that genuinely longs for Him. Give Him your heart — the real one, not the polished version.
God, search me and know my heart today. Where I've been performing instead of pursuing, forgive me. I want to be someone who loves You in private just as much as in public. Amen.
Stop Deflecting — Face the Truth
Hebrews 12:1 — "Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us."
Here's something I've learned in ministry — we are masterful deflectors. We can spot everyone else's issues with perfect clarity while remaining completely blind to our own. Jesus called it seeing the speck in your brother's eye while ignoring the log in yours. We blame our past, our upbringing, our circumstances, the people who hurt us. And listen — I'm not dismissing your pain. But I am telling you that carrying those deflections into your future will cost you the calling God placed on your life. Saul lost his anointing because he wouldn't face the truth. He kept justifying, explaining, and redirecting blame. Don't be Saul. Be David — who wrote Psalm 51 and said, "Lord, I did it. Deal with me." When you stop deflecting and start facing truth, God can actually begin to do the work that sets you free and moves you forward.
Father, give me the courage to face truth about my own heart today. I let go of every excuse and every deflection. Do Your work in me — I'm ready. Amen.
Surrender is Where It Starts
Hosea 6:6 — "I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings."
Many are called, but few are chosen. I've been sitting with those words from Jesus all week, and here's what I believe He's saying — being chosen isn't just about God's decision, it's about your response. A surrendered heart is a chosen heart. Surrender isn't weakness — it's the most powerful decision you'll ever make. It means you stop running your life your way and you hand the reins to God. It means when He tests you, you don't run for the door. When He corrects you, you lean in instead of pushing back. When He asks for obedience that costs you something, you obey anyway. I had to learn this too. God spent two years burning the corporate pride out of me before He could really use me. But what came out the other side was worth every moment of that fire. Today, choose to surrender. That's where your calling truly begins.
Lord, I surrender my heart to You today — not just the easy parts, but all of it. Do what only You can do, and use my life for Your glory. Amen.
