Based on the Teaching of Pastor Mirek Hufton

1. SERMON RECAP

Pastor Mirek Hufton taught that sin is not just a moral failure — it is a door that opens our lives to the curse, and every sin, no matter how small, gives the enemy legal ground to bring destruction. He reminded us that through Christ's redemption, believers have been made free from the law of sin and death, and that the power to say "no" to sin already lives inside every born-again, Spirit-filled believer. He challenged us to treat sin like a dangerous enemy, actively putting the flesh under through prayer, fasting, and the Word — not as a burden, but as the pathway to inheriting the full victory God has already purchased for us.

Start here to warm up the group before diving deeper.

Think about a time you had to do something kind or generous for someone when everything inside you did NOT want to — maybe a stubborn act of forgiveness or an unexpected gift. What happened, and how did you feel afterward?

4. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Question 1 — Opening the Conversation Pastor Mirek described sin as a "door opener" for the enemy — not just a personal mistake but something with real spiritual consequences. Does that framing change the way you personally think about sin in your daily life? Why or why not?

Question 2 — Going Deeper into Scripture Romans 6:6 tells us that our "old man" has been crucified, and Romans 6:14 declares that sin "shall not have dominion" over us. Pastor Mirek was clear that this is not automatic — it requires faith to "possess the land." What does it practically look like to live as though sin no longer has power over you, even when your emotions or habits are telling you otherwise?

Question 3 — The Curse Connection Pastor Mirek walked through Deuteronomy 28 and taught that sickness, financial lack, relational breakdown, and even political turmoil are listed as consequences — or "curses" — tied to sin. He also declared from Galatians 3:13 that Christ has redeemed us from that curse. How do you personally wrestle with the tension between "I am redeemed from the curse" and "this difficult thing is still happening in my life"? How does faith play into that tension?

Question 4 — The Flesh vs. The Spirit Pastor Mirek used the image of a electrical plug lying right next to a socket — close, but not connected, and therefore powerless. He said some people attend church for months and still see no change because they haven't truly "plugged in" by faith. What do you think it means to genuinely plug in? Can you share a season in your life when you felt truly connected versus one when you felt like you were just going through the motions?

Question 5 — Putting the Flesh Under He pointed to three specific spiritual disciplines — praying in the Holy Ghost, fasting, and meditating on the Word — as primary ways to put the flesh under. Which of these three feels most challenging for you personally right now, and what do you think makes it difficult? What's one small, realistic step you could take this week to strengthen that area?

Question 6 — Forgiveness as Warfare Pastor Mirek shared personal stories about sending expensive gifts and generous checks to people who had genuinely wounded him — not because his flesh wanted to, but because his spirit chose obedience over offense. He described how that act brought healing to him, not just the other person. Is there a relationship in your life right now where unforgiveness may be functioning as an open door? What would a Spirit-led response look like — even if your flesh is completely opposed to it?

5. APPLICATION CHALLENGE

One specific, achievable action for the coming week:

This week, identify one recurring sin habit, one emotional response, or one area of unforgiveness that you know has been a door in your life. Write it down privately. Then take the following three steps before the group meets again:

1. Repent and close the door — Bring it before God specifically and honestly, asking Him to reveal how it opened and to shut it by the blood of Jesus.
2. Declare the Word over it — Speak Romans 6:14 out loud daily: "Sin shall not have dominion over me." Say it like you mean it, every morning.
3. Take one Spirit-led action against it — Whether that is a season of prayer, a fast from something your flesh loves, a phone call you've been avoiding, or an act of generosity toward someone who hurt you — do the one thing your spirit knows is right and your flesh is resisting.

Come back next week ready to share what happened — even if it was hard.

6. PRAYER POINTS

Close your group time by praying together over these specific areas:

• Freedom from sin's dominion — Pray that every person in the group would experience a fresh revelation that the power of sin has truly been broken through Christ, and that they would walk in that reality this week — not just understand it intellectually.

• Closed doors and broken curses — Pray over any areas of persistent lack, sickness, relational strain, or spiritual heaviness in the group, declaring Galatians 3:13 — that Christ has redeemed us from the curse — and asking God to reveal and close any open doors that the enemy has been using.

• Strength to put the flesh under — Pray for supernatural grace and Holy Spirit empowerment for each member to say "no" to the flesh and "yes" to the Spirit in the specific areas where they are struggling most right now.

7. MEMORY VERSE

Romans 8:2 (NKJV) "For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death."

Tip for your group: Write this verse on a sticky note and put it somewhere you will see it every morning — your bathroom mirror, your dashboard, or your phone lock screen. Say it out loud every day this week.
