"Life Is In Connecting" — Pastor Mirek Hufton

1. SERMON RECAP

In this message, I shared that the deepest fulfillment in life doesn't come from things, status, or success — it comes from genuine connection with God and with other people. Just as a loose battery cable stops power from flowing, a weak or broken connection with Jesus cuts us off from His love, life, and strength. When we walk in the light of His love, that connection flows outward and becomes a healing force for everyone around us.

2. KEY SCRIPTURE

1 John 1:3-4 (NKJV) "That which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ. And these things we write to you that your joy may be full."

3. ICE BREAKER

Think of one person in your life — a teacher, a neighbor, a coworker, anyone — who made you feel genuinely seen and valued just by the way they treated you. What did they do that made the difference?

4. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

1. The Battery Cable Moment I used the image of a loose battery cable to describe a weak connection with Jesus — you get a little spark, but no real power. Honestly, where would you say your connection with God sits right now — loose, tight, or somewhere in between? What does a "tight connection" actually look like in your daily life?

2. Koinonia — More Than Just Showing Up The Greek word koinonia means sharing life together — a mutual giving and receiving, not just being in the same room. What's the difference between attending church and actually experiencing koinonia? Where in your life are you experiencing genuine koinonia right now, and where might it be missing?

3. Sin as the Great Disconnector I talked about how sin — especially selfishness — is Satan's primary tool for cutting people off from God and from each other. Can you think of a time (without naming anyone else) when selfishness created distance in a relationship that mattered to you? What did it cost you, and how did reconnection happen, if it did?

4. Seeing the 10 in People I challenged everyone to "put a 10 on people's heads" — to deliberately focus on what's good in someone rather than what's broken. Who in your world right now is it hardest for you to do this with? What would it look like in practice to water that person with love and encouragement this week?

5. Walking in Light Means Walking in Love In 1 John 1:7, John says that when we walk in the light, we have fellowship with one another. I made the point that you simply cannot love without relating to somebody — love requires a connection to be expressed. What barriers — busyness, past hurt, shyness, pride — are most likely to keep you personally from initiating deeper connection with people around you?

6. The World Is Full of Disconnected People I said that hell is eternal isolation, and heaven is the ultimate holy community. That means the church is supposed to be a preview of heaven right here — an oasis of love that disarms hurting people. What is one practical, concrete thing our group could do to be that oasis for someone outside these walls?

5. APPLICATION CHALLENGE

This week, become a connector on purpose.

Identify one person in your life who seems isolated, overlooked, or disconnected — someone at work, in your neighborhood, in your family, or even in this church. Take one specific, deliberate step to reach out to them. That might be a phone call, a text that says something genuinely encouraging, an invitation to coffee, or simply stopping to have a real conversation instead of a quick hello. Before you do it, pray for that person for five minutes and ask God to pour His love through you into them. Come back next week ready to share what happened.

6. PRAYER POINTS

• Pray for stronger personal connection with God — that each group member would identify one thing this week that is creating a "loose cable" in their relationship with Jesus, and have the courage to address it honestly.

• Pray for healing in broken relationships — that God would bring to mind anyone we have drifted from or hurt through selfishness or pride, and that He would give us both the humility and the opportunity to begin rebuilding that bridge.

• Pray for our church to become a genuine oasis of love — that newcomers, wounded people, and those who feel invisible would walk through our doors and immediately feel the warmth of a community that sees them, values them, and points them to Jesus.

1 John 1:7 (NKJV) "But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin."

Leader's Tip: Don't rush through the questions — it's perfectly fine to go deep on two or three rather than skimming all six. The goal is real conversation, not coverage. Model vulnerability first and your group will follow.
